CAPTURING MOMENTS
A Robust Saturday Academy
Our Saturday Academy, March 14, 2026 continues to be a robust cornerstone of the CMIT North community, where our Health and Wellness programs, the IT Certification where CMIT builds future experts and the FIRE team thrive through shared practices and collaboration. We are pleased to include adult coloring sessions into this mix, offering a peaceful, mindful outlet to enjoy. These initiatives foster a holistic environment that balances technical skill with emotional well-being for our entire school family.
Beyond our campus, the spirit of community was on full display as our students and staff volunteered at our sister middle school’s Cultural Festival to celebrate our shared heritage. This same dedication carried over to the Science Olympiad in Marriottsville and the three-day FRC event (March 13, 14, 15) in Pasadena, where our teams competed with heart and resilience. Throughout it all, the constant presence and support of our principal, Dr. Gaskins served as a vital pillar, cheering on our Tigers at every location.
Empowering the Next Generation of Tech Leaders
Muneeb Sahibzada leads our students through an intensive IT Certification program during Saturday Academy, where they are making significant strides in mastering the digital landscape. These young tech leaders are tackling advanced coursework on platforms like Coddy Tech and Coursera, gaining professional-grade skills in Python for cybersecurity and complex Data Analytics. This high-level environment allows our students to build a solid technical foundation, preparing them for the demands of an ever-evolving global industry.
The dedication shown in every session highlights the professional grit we foster here at CMIT North. By engaging with modules from institutions like the University of Michigan, our students are not just learning to code; they are actively securing their future in innovation and engineering. We are incredibly proud of their independent drive to solve real-world problems and earn industry-recognized certifications.
Please email msahibzada@cmitacademy.org for more information or to join the next module.
Science Olympiad Regional Competition
Under the expert guidance of our dedicated STEM coaches—Ms. Murphy, Ms. DeGuzman, Dr. Munsey, Ms. Guevara, Mr. Lavalle, and Mr. Ozdem—the CMIT North Science Olympiad team truly flourished at the regional competition. These educators provided the technical mentorship necessary for our students to master diverse disciplines ranging from biology to complex engineering. Their commitment to excellence translated months of rigorous study into a series of impressive wins that showcased our students' academic prowess
The success of the program was further bolstered by the meticulous coordination of Dr. Clarke, who ensured every student was prepared for this high-stakes environment. We were especially honored by the presence of our principal, Dr. Gaskins, whose unwavering support serves as a vital pillar for our school’s academic community. Our students fought hard to represent CMIT North, proving that when leadership and mentorship align, our high school’s potential is truly in full bloom.

Resilience in Motion: Team Illusion’s Journey in Pasadena.
The CMIT North High School Team Illusion demonstrated incredible grit and technical skill during the high-stakes FRC competition at Chesapeake High School. Our students spent countless hours perfecting complex C++ and Java code to ensure their robot could navigate the field and execute precise tasks autonomously. They meticulously assembled the machine's hardware, from intricate gearboxes to custom-wired electrical systems, proving that their hands-on engineering is as strong as their digital innovation.
While the team was not selected for the final winning alliances, their resilience remained unshaken as they stood tall against seasoned competitors. Throughout the three-day event, they faced every mechanical hurdle with a "never quit" attitude, constantly iterating on their designs in the pits to keep their robot in the fight. This experience reinforced their mastery of teamwork and problem-solving, showing that at CMIT, we only go up and up as we prepare for the next season.
FIRST Robotics Competition, is an annual international engineering challenge for high school students. Often described as the "ultimate Sport for the Mind," it combines the excitement of sports with the rigors of science and technology
Local Heroes Inspire Future Leaders: Career Day at CMIT
Mr. Abdelrahim Hussin, a Career Coach from Employ Prince George's, recently brought the excitement of Career Day to CMIT, providing students with an invaluable opportunity to connect with the professionals who keep the community safe. The school was honored to host Prince George’s County first responders, who shared firsthand insights into their daily responsibilities, specialized training, and the rewarding nature of public service. This engaging event allowed students to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world career paths, sparking meaningful conversations about leadership and civic duty. CMIT is incredibly grateful to these local heroes for taking the time to inspire the next generation of leaders.
Rho Kappa | 🗳️ On Tuesdays We Vote — Results Are In!
This week’s “On Tuesdays We Vote” poll asked our school community to weigh in on Daylight Saving Time.
With 113 total votes cast, participation was strong across the school. The results showed that exactly half of respondents—50%—said they would prefer to keep Daylight Saving Time year-round rather than continue changing the clocks twice a year.
Thank you to everyone who took a moment to participate and share your opinion. These weekly polls are a fun way for our community to practice civic engagement and see how opinions vary across our school.
Be sure to look out for next Tuesday’s poll and add your voice to the conversation.
RIGOROUS CLASSES
Seniors Reach New Heights: Physics Thesis Defenses
During the week of March 9–13, our 12th-grade students reached a prestigious academic milestone as they formally defended their original physics research theses. Under the expert mentorship of Ms. Greaves and Dr. Clarke, these seniors dedicated months to conducting high-level inquiries and rigorous data analysis on complex physical phenomena. This intensive capstone project acts as a vital bridge to collegiate-level research, demanding a sophisticated blend of technical mastery and professional communication.
The defense process serves as a true "rite of passage," challenging students to articulate intricate physical laws and justify their experimental methodologies before a critical audience. We are incredibly proud of the scientific rigor and intellectual grit these students displayed as they finalized their unique contributions to the field of physics. Their dedication to mastering such complex material proves they are ready for the next level of academic challenge.
From Infographics to Bio-Bingo: Students Master the Science of Life Mr. Marshall, Biology Classes
Our students recently demonstrated a deep mastery of photosynthesis and cellular respiration through a series of dynamic, student-led assessments. Moving beyond traditional testing, these young scientists transformed the classroom into a hub of innovation by designing intricate infographics and visual models to map out how energy flows through the living world. By breaking down complex chemical transitions into clear, engaging diagrams, they proved their ability to translate rigorous scientific data into accessible knowledge for their peers.
The creativity continued as the classroom buzzed with original interactive learning tools, including biology-themed board games, digital quizzes, and "Bio-Bingo" challenges. Other students took a more literary approach, composing clever raps, poems, and "letters to future scientists" that explained the essential nature of energy conversion. These projects did more than just prove scientific literacy; they showcased the communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills that define our school community as students took full ownership of their learning..
Mastering the Market: Financial Literacy in Action
Our students are taking their financial knowledge beyond the textbook through dynamic, out-of-the-classroom games designed to master real-world money management. Led by Ms. Yolanda Blackwell, the class recently engaged in an interactive challenge where students physically moved forward for every correct financial decision and stepped backward for incorrect ones. This hands-on approach allowed our young investors to visualize the impact of their choices, turning complex economic concepts into a high-energy competition
By gamifying the learning process, these students are building the critical thinking and decision-making skills needed to secure a financially literate future. From understanding credit and debt to mastering the basics of investing, they are proving that they have the grit and focus to navigate the global economy. We are proud to see them take such active ownership of their learning as they prepare to become the next generation of financially savvy leaders.
A Slice of Pi: Pre-Pi Day Scavenger Hunt
Our students were buzzing with excitement as they celebrated Pi Day Eve (3.13) with a high-energy, campus-wide scavenger hunt. To honor the world’s most famous mathematical constant, students raced to track down hidden "pi" symbols tucked away in every corner of the school. Each discovery came with a challenge: students had to solve Pi-themed mathematical puzzles and geometry questions to earn their rewards. This interactive event turned complex ratios into a hands-on adventure, allowing our scholars to walk away with both prizes and a deeper appreciation for the infinite wonders of π.

Eden Kwende - AP Scholar Celebrations
Congratulations to all of our Advanced Placement Scholars at CMIT! 25% of current students in grades 10-12 have earned college credit by earning a 3 or higher on an Advanced Placement exam within their high school tenure. 20% of those students even earned a 5 on their AP Exam, a truly outstanding performance! Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting some of these outstanding scholars as they share advice to their peers.
Eden Kwende is an 11th Grade Student who earned a 5 on the US Government and Politics AP Test in the 10th Grade. Eden had the following advice to future AP Test Takers:
The main thing I can tell you that surely helped me is that these tests go way beyond mere memorization. Focus on applying the knowledge you’ve learned in class, study/review in a TIMELY manner, but don’t psych yourselves out too much—you guys got this! Remember: Others can believe in you all they want, but it won’t matter unless you believe in yourself. Good luck!
