Hello Columbine Families!
It is unbelievable that the month of May is already here, and it is packed with excitement as we come to the final sprint of the school year! We are kicking off our final celebration with Staff Appreciation Week and our final fundraiser of the year with the Read-A-Thon!
For Staff Appreciation Week, you and your children have the opportunity to submit a note of affirmation or gratitude to staff here at school! Just click here and complete the form. We will deliver your heartfelt messages to staff during the week with a special treat! It will be awesome to share your messages and uplift our staff.
Kicking off this week: the Read-A-Thon! Students have received their Read-A-Thon minute tracking pages and pledge envelopes - they should start reading now and get as many minutes as possible between now and May 8th! All pledges and donations must be received by May 15th! Columbine's goal is to raise $6000 to support our literacy, tutoring, and retired teacher programs throughout next school year. Thank you in advance for all who are able to support our students through the Read-A-Thon!
Stay tuned throughout May for more information regarding Super Kids Day and BBQ on May 20th! There will be a 10:30am early release on May 21st, the last day of school - please plan ahead. Until then, enjoy the energy of the last few weeks of school with the events detailed below. It has been an absolute joy to spend this school year with your children, seeing them learn, grow, and achieve every day! Important Health Office Information
Immunization Requirements for Next School Year
Each year, CDPHE publishes information about immunizations for the upcoming school year. Please be familiar with the requirements for attending public school in the state of Colorado for 26-27. The links below indicate requirements for Preschool and K-6 separately. Please contact our health staff with any questions.
Staying Healthy
The health staff is hoping you are navigating this season without any issues! However, we know that many children and families are dealing with upper respiratory issues, including various strands of upper respiratory infections and severe colds! While we want students to be at school, it is our top priority to keep everyone healthy and well!
We ask that if your student has any of the following symptoms they remain at home: fever, diarrhea and/or vomiting and a new or severe cough. We ask that you please wait 24 hours for those symptoms to subside (without the use of medication) before returning your student to school (and improvement in the case of a cough). If you have any questions about any other symptoms or health concerns, please feel free to call your school nurse directly. When you call the office to report an absence (or report the absence in IC), it is helpful if we can know what type of illness or symptoms your student is experiencing. We appreciate your willingness to share that information so we can track trends and help protect our vulnerable students. If a student becomes ill at school, we will call parents for an immediate pick up. Thank you for your assistance and partnership keeping our students, staff, parents and visitors healthy.

Champions Childcare Closure Update
A Message from Champions
Dear Columbine Elementary Champions Families,
It is with sincere regret that we are writing to inform you that the Champions Before and After School Program at Columbine Elementary will be permanently closing effective Friday, April 3. Due to the program no longer being financially viable, along with a significant shift in staffing, we are unfortunately no longer able to continue operations at this location.
We understand how important consistent care is to your families, and we deeply apologize for the disruption and inconvenience this has caused. Please know that this has been a very difficult decision, and we truly appreciate the trust you have placed in our team to care for your children.
Community Food Resources
We understand that many families in Teller County may need food assistance right now. Our community has been working diligently to ensure every family has access to groceries. Please click the attachment below to see the various food pantry resources across Teller County.
Reminders
Winter Weather Procedure
If there is a two hour delay in WPSD, all Columbine students will check in with our delayed start questionnaire, available here. The questionnaire will also be sent to families on the morning of the delay so you can access it easily.
Snow Day Procedure:
If there is a snow day announced for WPSD, Columbine Elementary will be closed. Enjoy the snow day!
Parking Lot Info & Reminders
- Please be mindful of your speed!
- Use the crosswalk!
- If you walk your student up to the doors in the morning, park in the parking lot.
- The upper carpool loop is not for parking - drivers must stay in their vehicles while students get in or out of the car.
- The lower carpool loop is reserved for pre-K and kindergarten families who have their own parking protocols related to the safety of our youngest students.
- The upper parking lot will only be open during dismissal or during special events that occur during the school day.
- As always, if your student is arriving late, you must walk up to the office to check them in.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep students safe and accounted for and safe on our campus!
Leave Toys and Trinkets at Home
Please note that toys and trinkets or other distracting accessories and/or personal items are not permitted at school. We appreciate your support to keep such items at home, so they do not become a distraction the in instructional environment. Students will be asked to store distracting items if they become an issue during the school day. If needed, items will be kept in the main office for parent pick up at the end of the day.
Bring Gym Shoes
Please remember to send a pair of shoes for your student to wear for gym class! Proper shoes help students to stay safe and be able to participate appropriately in class. Questions? Connect with our PE teacher, Ms. Goldberg.
Immunization Requirements
As a reminder we are required by the State of Colorado to have an up-to-date immunization record, in-process plan or an exemption for each of our students. Immunization requirement notifications were sent out this week to our students who are still missing required documents. If you have any questions about your student's immunization status, please reach out to our health staff:
