Students will create a mural displaying the achievements of 5 African Americans who set precedents in their respected fields.
Students will identify famous African Americans and create BioBanners recognizing the positive contributions towards society
Students will analyze several samples of African American Culture and reflect how it impacts society today.
Students will identify contributions of African Americans through our daily morning announcements.
American History classes will continue to discuss how slavery has shaped our society.
Kindness Club
The Log College Middle School Kindness Club has helped spread positivity since 2017! The Kindness Club consists of Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth grade girls and boys and our mascot, Maya! Students enjoy working together as a team to create acts of kindness in support of our school staff and students, as well as our community's heroes: our emergency first responders, senior living residents, and hospital patients. Kindness Club is grateful for all of the support. Stay tuned for more fun this spring!

Course Selection (Current Grade 6 and 7 students)
Our course selection process for next year is well underway! Students in 6th and 7th grade saw brief presentations this week from their guidance counselors about the process and answered many questions that the students had. The students are now completing their drag sheets, making selections for their expo classes. Next week, the counselors will revisit the students’ social studies classes to put the expo requests into Skyward. If you haven’t already, please check with your children about their course selections for next year!
6th Grade English Language Arts Class
6th Grade English: Exploring the Great Depression through Literature
Mrs. Vallalla’s 6A English classes recently wrapped up Module 1 of the Wit & Wisdom program, where students explored life during the Great Depression through two powerful texts: Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis and Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse. As they read, students analyzed the struggles faced by people during this challenging time and examined how characters transformed to overcome adversity.
To deepen their understanding, students reflected on the themes of resilience and perseverance by choosing a single word to summarize what life was like during the Great Depression or what stood out to them the most. These words became part of our class graffiti wall, a visual representation of their learning (pictured here).
As we move into our next module, we are excited to continue strengthening our reading, writing, and critical thinking skills through engaging discussions and meaningful texts!
Reading is Fundamental
Put down the phone....pick up a book!
We ask that you please encourage your child to read at home! Not only is reading a great hobby, it helps children to become better learners and helps them focus. It is the single, greatest way your child can help him or herself. Plus, more and more, reading is becoming an expectation for our English classes.
