Following the Funds

Hello and welcome to the first edition of “Following the Funds” for this school year!

Alex McDonald, a senior at Taylor High School, is interning with our Treasurer, Teri Riesenberg in the Treasurer’s Office this year and will be sharing updates about what happens behind the scenes at Three Rivers. To kick off the series, we’re going to keep it simple and talk about what the Treasurer’s Office does and why the Treasurer role is important. We look forward to sharing more throughout the school year!

The Treasurer serves as the District’s Chief Financial Officer, overseeing all financial operations, including budgeting, financial forecasting, payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, and asset management. The Treasurer is responsible for financial reporting and compliance, including preparation of the annual Tax Budget and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), and coordination with local, state, and federal agencies. Additionally, the Treasurer serves as Secretary to the Board of Education, maintaining official Board minutes, contracts, and District records.

The Treasurer’s Office also has two assistants, Dan Carle and Lori Nelson, who play an important role in keeping the district running smoothly each day. Dan manages the payroll side of the office, including employee contracts, salaries, benefits, and processing and reconciling payroll. Lori oversees the accounting side, including banking, reconciliations, receipting, purchasing requests, invoicing, payments, and tracking of district assets. Their responsibilities are divided so that no one person is responsible for everything. They also work together to double-check each other, helping prevent mistakes, reduce risk, and protect the district. Having more than one person involved helps ensure proper checks and balances, keeping the district in compliance with state and federal laws. The Treasurer’s Office has been recognized by the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office, for which the Three Rivers Local School District has been awarded the distinguished “Ohio Auditor of State, Award with Distinction” (less than 4% of all government entities receive this award) – they are now 4 consecutive years in the running. In addition to this prestigious award, the Treasurer’s Office has also received the ASBO Certificate of Excellence for Financial Reporting and the GFOA (Government Finance Officers Association) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The criteria required to meet the standard for these recognitons require achieving a "clean" financial audit that meets rigorous standards for accuracy, accountability, and transparency.

Every dollar tells a story, we’ll follow it together. Until next time.

Exciting News! New Credit Card Payment Options in Our School Cafeteria!

We are excited to announce a new credit card reader feature in our school cafeteria! This added payment option makes purchasing meals and other approved items more convenient for our students and families. We are always looking for ways to improve our services and provide payment options that work best for you!

A Friendly Reminder About Card Payment Fees

Please be aware that a service fee of 2.99% plus $0.15 applies to card payments made through our payment system.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Convenient Payments: Use the new credit card readers in our cafeterias for a quick and easy checkout experience.

  • Know Before You Pay: The service fee and total amount will be displayed before you confirm your payment. You may cancel at no charge.

  • Save on Fees! You can avoid the service fee by paying with cash or check. For applicable programs, funds may also be added at no charge by bringing cash or a check to the cafeteria.

Why Is There a Service Fee?

The service fee helps cover the cost of processing card payments so these expenses do not come out of program funds. This is a service fee, not a surcharge or convenience fee.

Payment services are provided by CP-DBS, LLC, doing business as PaySchools, an i3 Verticals company.

We are excited to offer this new feature and hope it makes cafeteria purchases easier and more convenient for our students and families!

For questions about card payments, please contact Three Rivers Food Services (513)824-7444. Thank you for your continued support of Three Rivers Food Services and our school community!
