Message from Nicole Pease Principal
Hello DCS Families, what a whirlwind of a week! I have long held that 4 days weeks are more chock full than 5 day weeks and this was true! We had lots of end of year assessing, plays, a trip to the Library, and much much much more.
Today we had our final Community Lunch of the year and we had many parents in attendance which was lovely! The 3/4/5 graders put on two plays which were amazing! One especially sweet moment was when students were complimenting the actors on a job well done with no prompting from the adults. That was a treasure to witness.
It is hard to believe that next week is the start of June! While we are excited about summer coming, we still have a few weeks to continue to move our students along in their progress this year. In thinking about next year I would love to get some feedback and have put together the linked survey below on which you can share your thoughts. Thank you in advance, Nicole

Kindergarten with Deb Lang
Kindergarteners have been learning about the power of silent magic E at the end of a word. Magic E hops over the consonant next door and sprinkles magic dust on the vowel, making it say its name (long vowel sound). We also practiced building strong sentences with sentence scrambles, and reviewed three different types of writing: opinion, informational, & narrative.
Students were excited to participate in a special manatee project with Officer Daltario who adopted a class manatee for us to follow! Kindergarteners also dissected soil from the garden to investigate its many components. We also practiced and proudly learned “America the Beautiful” for the Memorial Day assembly. First and Second Grade with Heather Fletcher
We have had such exciting times in grades one and two lately! Preparing for our Memorial Day assembly was such a great reminder of those who have fought for our country to keep us free. I'm so proud of the job that our class did. They were polished and clear In their performance. It was so moving to go to Dublin's cemetery afterward and have the privilege of placing 300 flags on the graves of our veterans. We have been talking about the Revolutionary War in our class, and the students have become more familiar with timelines of the 1700s, the 1800s and the 1900s. Many students notice these different dates on the grave markers at the cemetery, and many noticed the different wars represented at each grave. It was truly a privilege and one I look forward to next year!
Our class was fortunate enough to have Officer Dalterio come in and teach us about manatees. He adopted one for K-2, and he came in and presented facts about them such as habitat, diet, predators and prey. This was an excellent kickoff for our next unit as a class. We have begun our ocean animal unit where each student will choose a different ocean animal to research. They will each write a paragraph about their animal, and then we will compile them into a book along with illustrations. This is such a fun unit, and the students are already super excited.
Thankfully, we are done testing and I'm so proud of the determination of each student! We are still not finished with our New Nation unit, And we have some exciting activities to go along with this coming up soon. Stay tuned.
Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade with Mrs. Garland and Mrs. Quinn
Wow! For the past two weeks, your students have been super hard workers. Both classes did their best on the SAS Reading, Writing, and Math testing. We are now finished with testing for this year. You will be receiving the results with your child’s report card at the end of the year. Please reach out directly to us if you have any questions. When not testing, the students enjoyed rehearsing for their plays on stage. The plays were amazing, classroom community building opportunites. Thank you, parents and guardians, for your continued support in helping your child get to sleep early to be rested and ready for testing, and for assisting your child with learning their play lines. Also, thank you to everyone who contributed to their success!
For Math, third graders are working on their geometry unit, focusing on quadrilaterals and solving problems involving the perimeter and area of shapes. Across the hall, the fourth-grade students are working on the second half of their Geometry Unit. The fifth-grade students are focused on Multiplying Fractions.
