WLWV Community Update

February is Black History Month, giving West Linn-Wilsonville students and the entire nation the opportunity to reflect on Black History in America.

Black Student Union members from Wilsonville and West Linn High Schools created a slideshow highlighting historical black figures who inspire them. Students across all district schools and grade levels will spend time during the month of February learning about American history.

Febrero es el Mes de la Historia Afroestadounidense, dándole a los estudiantes de West Linn-Wilsonville y a los de toda la nación, la oportunidad de reflexionar acerca de la Historia Africana en los Estados Unidos.

Los miembros de la Unión de Estudiantes Afroamericanos en las Escuela Preparatoria de Wilsonville y West Linn crearon una presentación resaltando las figuras históricas africanas que los inspiran. Los estudiantes en todas las escuelas del distrito y niveles de grado, tendrán tiempo durante el mes de febrero para aprender acerca de la historia Americana.

The district's new third high school is planned to be a four-year comprehensive high school for grades 9-12, including core academic subject areas, co-curricular activities, access to OSAA athletics, performing and visual arts, clubs, and all of the opportunities that students have at the district's existing high schools. It will also center in three new CTE (Career and Technical Education) pathway options in the areas of:

1. Health Occupations

2. Business and Marketing

3. Construction and Architecture

We are set to open this school in the fall of 2023. Part of the planning process includes selecting a name for the school. The district would like input from the West Linn-Wilsonville community as part of that process by February 12, 2022.

Planning principal Nic Chapin has started meeting with students at the middle and high schools to collect their ideas as well. The district will then gather a representative group of students and staff along with Planning Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent to review all submissions and create a slate of top recommended names. The final slate will be submitted to the school board for review in late February. Thank you for providing your feedback!

La nueva tercera escuela preparatoria del distrito, está planeada para ser una preparatoria integral de cuatro años para los grados 9-12, incluyendo las áreas académicas de materias centrales, actividades co-curriculares, acceso a atletismo de OSAA, artes visuales y escénicas, clubes, y todas las oportunidades que los estudiantes tienen en la escuelas preparatorias existentes. The West Linn-Wilsonville School District will host a Dual Language Information Night for incoming kindergarten students on Feb. 16. Virtual meeting information and the Zoom link can be found on the district website.

Interested students entering Kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year can now submit their Application of Interest for the district’s Dual Language Program.

A lottery for the Dual Language Program will be held on March 11, 2022. To be eligible for the Dual Language Program Lottery, interested families must submit an Application of Interest found on the district website.

All West Linn-Wilsonville schools are accepting 2022-23 school year registration for new students as of January 31, 2022. Registration is for students entering grades K-12 and who are new to the West Linn-Wilsonville School District. Preschool registration will also open on a limited basis.

Prospective students and families can learn about school options and complete their online registration on the district website.
