Principal's Message Principal's Message

Hello, Families,

👉There is no school Wednesday, Nov. 26, Thursday Nov. 27th, or Friday, Nov. 28th. 👈

Due to the short school week ahead, this will be the last school newsletter before Thanksgiving. So, we would like to take this opportunity to tell you that we are thankful for our school families and to thank each of you for sharing your children with us and entrusting us with their care. We love our Goshen Lane community!

Girls on the Run

Best of luck to our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Girls on the Run members who have worked hard all school year to train for tomorrow's, Saturday, Nov. 22nd's, 5k! Let's go, ladies! We are so proud of you and your commitment!

End of Day Details

The front office is a busy place at the end of the school day. We work hard to ensure all end of day's details are communicated to classrooms before the day is over.

  • We ask that parents call before 1:30 p.m. to make transportation changes. Please make sure students know your plan of pick up before they come to school and that you have communicated that to the teacher and/or the front office.
  • We ask that parents not come to pick up students in person through the front office after 2:00. At 2:00, the office will be closed for visitors to ensure we are able to focus on end of day details happening in the office and in classrooms. Please pick up for doctor appointments, etc, before 2:00 or in the car pickup line at 2:45.

NEW! Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

The FFVP is new to Goshen Lane and will begin next week. The weekly program provides a variety of free, fresh fruit and vegetable snacks to children at eligible elementary schools. Schools deliver FFVP snacks along with bite-sized nutrition lessons. This encourages children to try new foods, learn about seasonal produce, and set healthy eating habits to last a lifetime. The Goal of the FFVP is to create healthier school environments by providing healthier choices to students by

• Expanding the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience.

• Increasing children’s fruit and vegetable consumption

• Making a difference in children’s diets to impact their present and future

health

  • Monday, Nov. 24th: Students will receive a bag containing one each of Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and HoneyCrisp apples. A flyer will be included detailing the Ohio-grown apples and the FFVP initiative, along with a word search puzzle.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 25th: A sampling will include a small sample of cranberries and a sample of sweet potatoes, with recipes and a word search puzzle.

  • This Week's Question Around the Dinner Table:

    • What read alouds or novels has the class been reading for Wit & Wisdom? What are the themes or big ideas?
    • What are you counting this month in Number Corner? What kinds of images are on the calendar cards?

    Have a great weekend,

    Sharon Suriano

    • What skills did you practice today in PE class?

    • How did you show good sportsmanship in PE class today?

Hello from the Goshen Elementary Art Room

For the past couple of weeks our 5th graders have been working on painting a snow plow for the City of Gahanna. Students were asked to create a design in the theme of 'winter wonderland' for the snow plow and they submitted some incredible designs. I combined multiple student's design submissions into a final composition. Students have been working on painting the final design for the last two weeks and finished it yesterday. This weekend the snow plow will be on display at the Gahanna Holiday Lights Celebration!! The event will be held at Creekside this Sunday from 3:00-6:30. The event is free to attend and will include live performances on the Holiday Stage, arts and crafts, decorating a snow plow, fun photo opps in a Giant Snow Globe, and so much more fun! Visit this link for more information: https://www.visitgahanna.com/Events/Holiday-Lights-Celebration/

Please join us in celebrating the 5th graders' hard work!

    Best - Alexis Zabor

    Did You Know?

Missing two days per month - excused or unexcused - can add up to a child being considered chronically absent.

Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% or more (approximately 18 days) during a school year, regardless if the absence is coded excused or unexcused!
