The STAR
August 15, 2021
“At Ruby Bridges we are committed to every student’s potential by teaching to the whole child and holding high expectations.”
Welcome Back Stars!
Welcome back! I hope summer was full and fun and long lasting memories. I write to welcome you back and to share some important reminders for a smooth first day, week, and year.
- Our campus is open at 7:40 am for breakfast. All students (except TK) that plan to eat breakfast will report to the MPR as there is no supervision before 8:10 am.
- Breakfast and lunch are free for all students; however, we still need you to complete the lunch application so our Title 1 status is not jeopardized. Here is lunch application: www.myschoolapps.com. The August menu is below, please click.
- We are beginning the year with Family Connection Meetings. This will allow teachers to connect and build relationships with families and students, and it will also allow you to share what you know best about your student in meeting goals for the year. This means your student will be dismissed at 11:40 for the first few weeks of school. Please make arrangements for childcare if you are not enrolled in Camp EDMO or WCDC.
- TK/Kinder 8/16-9/3- 11:40 dismissal; 1st-5th 8/16-8/27- 11:40 dismissal
- Attendance will be counted from day one. Make sure your student arrives on time for learning as every day counts. If your student is absent, please email our attendance clerk, Ms. Jones, at sjones@alamedaunified.org or call 510-748- 4006, ext. 06751. Late students should report to the office.
- Courtesy of Alameda Education Foundation, we have backpacks with supplies for all students. These items will come home this week. Supplies in the backpack are for at home usage.
- Lastly, if you still have a Chromebook/charger to return, please send it with your student this week. Our classroom teachers will turn it over to the office.
More information will be shared in the coming days. Make sure to check ParentSquare for email messages.

Site safety and Covid Protocols
AUSD is following the county guidance and is no longer using the daily screener. If you suspect your student is sick, PLEASE keep them at HOME. We are also asking that ALL students are tested this week. You may visit the Longfellow campus or Alameda High school for a test. Students exhibiting symptoms of Covid while at school will be sent home. Under no circumstances should you send students who are ill to school.
Visit: Student and Staff COVID-19 Testing page or Student Vaccination web page. Please read carefully: Family Guide
Masks should be on at all times while on campus. This is for both adults and students. Masks are only removed for eating and drinking. We will prioritize handwashing and safe hygiene. As shared in prior communication, all classrooms have multiple layers of ventilation.
Lunch- we will attempt to rotate students to our outside dining tables as much as possible. Given the number of students that we serve, some will still need to eat indoors. We will continue to make necessary and reasonable changes as needed. Parents will not be on campus for lunch. Parents will not be allowed to pick up students for lunch.
Water fountains will not be used. Make sure to send a labeled water bottle for your student.
Please talk to your child about safety protocols (no) body contact between them and other students.

Community Giveaway
Thank you to All Good Living Foundation and Chris Tam for the awesome donation of goodies. Our community giveaway left us empty handed! Clothes, toiletries, pizza, and so much more was handed out.
A huge shout out to our Ruby, Paden, Love, and Salesforce volunteers, you all rock!
Arrival and Dismissal to School
TK students should arrive at 8:30 to begin their day. Please look for Ms. Phan's line and have your star wait patiently on a red star (front of the school). There is no morning recess for TK students. They begin learning at 8:30.
The front driveway will be used for DROP OFF and PICK UP ONLY! If you are dropping off, please enter the front drive and follow the cones to the end of the parking lot where you will drop off students to the playground gates. Pick up will follow the same procedures. You may NOT PARK in the drop off zone or staff parking lot. Do NOT leave your car. If you are not dropping off, plan your arrival. You should plan to park in the neighborhood or in the Alameda Parks parking area.
SDC students arriving by vehicle should use the rear drive way. SDC teachers have worked with staff to meet/receive students here.
For student safety in the parking lot, pay attention to the cross walk and enter and exit areas. Do not enter though the exit zone to reach our lot.
