Note From Principal Favero
Dear RedHawk Families,
As we move further into the school year, I want to take a moment to say thank you. The partnership we share with our families is essential to the success of our students, and I am so grateful for the ways you continue to collaborate with us. Whether it’s attending one of our many events - Back to School Night, WMS sporting contests, Volunteering as a RedShirt, supporting at home, or communicating with staff - your involvement makes a powerful difference.
One of the most important parts of this partnership is keeping open lines of communication and supporting our students both at school and at home. We encourage you to check in with your child regularly—ask about their day, their goals, and how they’re feeling about their learning. Reinforcing the importance of school, homework, and good habits at home helps build a strong foundation for success.
As a reminder, here are a few key expectations that support student growth:
Daily Reading: At least 20 minutes each night.
Math Practice: All math students should have between 15 - 30 minutes of homework each night
iReady Lessons: A minimum of one iReady Math lesson and one iReady Reading lesson each week.
When school and home work together, our students thrive. Thank you for your continued partnership, encouragement, and support—it truly makes a difference.
Proud to be a RedHawk,Francesca Favero, Principal
Safety Day Tuesday, September 9th
Before Safety Day and on September 9th, all students will have a lesson on Safety Day purpose and procedures. Safety Day drills will cover: fire drills, severe weather, and a lock down drill. If you have any questions about Safety Day or would like your student to opt-out of the lock down drill, please email: melissa.hickman@d303.org no later than Friday, September 5th at 3pm. We will arrange an alternate place for your student during the drill.
Important Notes from the Office
Don't Forget - Order Your Yearbook!
Our yearbook is an OPTIONAL add-on purchase. We have sold out of yearbooks the previous few school years because we only order a small number of extra ones. Order your yearbook now to avoid disappointment later! The yearbook is available to order in the D303 Webstore. Search Wredling then scroll down to locate the yearbook.
School Pictures and Retakes
Please read the information below carefully!
School picture previews and photo packages (for those of you who ordered) from Material Pick Up Days were distributed to teams last week. Your student should have brought home the preview card or photo package early this week. If you haven't received either, check with your student. Any questions regarding your student's school photos should be handled by Color Portraits Customer Service. Their phone number is 847-382-7505 ext 7.
Picture Retakes are scheduled for next Thursday, September 11th.
For retakes: Which of the below options applies to your family?
1) My Student DID NOT get their school photo taken at Material Pick-Up in August
If your student did NOT get their school picture taken during Material Pick-Up, they will be called out of class to have them taken, September 11th during the morning at school. ALL STUDENTS must have a photo taken (if they haven’t already done so) for their photo ID’s.
If you wish to order photos from the upcoming September 11th date, please use the information from the form below. Photo orders are pre-pay and the code expires at midnight on September 11th. If you order after that date, you will need to use a different code (to be supplied by Color Portraits) and those late orders will be subject to shipping charges.
2) My Student DID get their school photo taken at Material Pick-Up & I ordered pictures
You only need to place an order if you did not purchase from our original picture days during Material Pick-Up or are unhappy with the photo order sent home with your student last week. These retakes do not result in a replacement ID.
NOTE: If you choose to have a picture retake, your student MUST bring the original photo package with them on September 8th to give to the photographer. This is a Color Portraits policy which we have no control over. If your child doesn’t have the original package with them to return, the Color Portraits representative will send them back to class without taking their picture.

From the WMS Health Office
Dear Parents,
The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting an increase in cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease across the state, including in Kane County. Please review the following information regarding this viral infection and monitor your child/children for any changes in their health.
SYMPTOMS
Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease usually starts with a sore throat and a low-grade fever lasting about 1-2 days. Small painful blisters form on the inside of the mouth and throat, on the lips. The skin rash develops as red raised spots, some with blisters that do not itch, usually located on fingers, hands, and feet. The blisters will break easily and form small ulcers. The area around the ulcer may become red.
INCUBATION
Symptoms may occur 3-7 days after exposure to one of these blisters.
TRANSMISSION
Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease is transmitted by direct contact with saliva, nasal drainage, and feces of an infected person. The condition occurs most frequently in the summer and early autumn.
EXCLUSION
Students should be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications. Students displaying symptoms of open draining lesions on hands or lesions inside the mouth should also be excluded.
TREATMENT
Fever relief and pain relief is the only treatment. This mild disease takes about 7-10 days to resolve without medical treatment. Strongly encourage hand washing to prevent transmission of hand, foot, and mouth disease, as well as most communicable illnesses in the community.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact the school nurse at 331-228-3704
Community School District 303 closely follows the guidelines of the Kane County Health Department, Illinois Department of Public Health, and Center for Disease Control.

If your student is entering an Illinois school for the first time, evidence of a physical examination and a complete record of immunizations must be submitted within 30 days of their first day of school.
We will need evidence of the physical and immunizations, or proof of an appointment by October 1, 2025. Our email is Wms-Nurses@d303.org. Our fax number is 331-228-3707. If this number does not work, fax your paperwork to the main office at 331-228-3701.
