Hermosa School Weekly Recap - Week of March 10-15
We had a fantastic time celebrating Read Across America Week with fun dress-up days and special guest readers. Hockey players from the Rapid City Rush visited our elementary students to read and share inspiring stories. We also welcomed a special group from Mississippi who brought the joy of reading to our classrooms. Students had a blast with bouncy house fun in the gym, and we wrapped up the week by reading a book together and decorating cookies in honor of Pi Day.
On Wednesday, Mrs. Frieden and Mrs. Graveman took our 7th-grade girls to South Dakota Mines for Women in Science Day, where they explored exciting career opportunities in science.
Thursday was a big day for our Hermosa Theater Troupe, as they performed Beauty and the Beast Jr. for the first time! If you missed it, don’t worry—there’s another chance to see the show this Thursday at 6:00 PM. We invite everyone to come and support our talented students!
Additionally, Thursday marked the end of the 3rd quarter for all middle school students. We encourage families to check in on grades and celebrate their students' hard work this term.
Thank you for being part of such a vibrant and supportive school community!

Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Graveman
Greetings!
This week, we wrapped up our Kindness and Empathy Units with Junior Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. 7th grade continued to learn about self-concept, and 8th grade has initiated the first step in building their self-concept.
For the rest of March, we will be learning about mindfulness in kindergarten through 5th grade. We will discuss mindfulness, mindful listening, and mindful looking. Mindfulness means paying full attention to something and slowing down to notice what you are doing. We often think about what happened yesterday, what we need to do later, what is going on at home or with our friends, etc. Being mindful helps us focus on what is happening right now. Mindfulness at school can help students pay better attention, slow down with their work, get along with others, and improve their listening skills. At home, mindfulness can improve their mood, increase patience, and help them stay calm under stress.
Character Counts -- Fairness
A big congratulations to our students below for being the February Fairness Character Counts winners! These students strive hard to treat one another with respect, share, and be considerate of differences. (Not pictured is our preschool winner.)
