"Many damaged student Chromebooks were collected at the middle school prior to the end of the 24-25 school year. Please check to see if your student owes a debt for a damaged device. Many 10th-12th graders also may have turned in a damaged device that needs to be paid for before they are permitted to receive a new device. You can check to see if you have fees by using the instructions below. Listed below the instructions is also a sample of the email that you should have received as a notification. If there is a technology bill, all questions should be directed to finance@hcpss.org Individual schools do not send bills or collect payment for any technology damage. Questions regarding the devices and any damage can be directed to DeviceDeployment@hcpss.org"

Update Your Family File Information Today!

Español | 中文 | 한국어

HCPSS utilizes Family File for families to complete emergency information. Parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child each school year.

Parents/guardians are only asked to complete Family File at this time.

Several updates have been made to Family File, including how and where to access. Parents/guardians can now access and complete Family File by logging in to HCPSS Connect Synergy, selecting the Online Registration at the top right of the page and then selecting Family File Verification.

Once logged in, parents/guardians will be asked to update or provide the following: family information; parent/guardian contact; emergency contact(s); and student information, including health information, PTA/PTSA directory inclusion, release of information, science agreement, and arrival/dismissal procedures.

Resources on completing Family File may be found online. Answers to frequently asked questions on Family File and on HCPSS Connect are available on the HCPSS Help site.

HCPSS Student Personal Device Use in Schools

HCPSS Student Personal Device Use in Schools:

  • Students will keep personal technology devices away and silenced and ensure they are not a distraction during the student day.
  • Smart watches may be worn during the student day but may not distract instruction or be used for reasons other than checking the time.
  • A staff member on a school-sponsored field trip may permit the use of a personal technology device by a student in limited situations where capturing a picture or video may be appropriate or contacting a parent/guardian is necessary.
  • School administrators and school administrators’ designees may authorize use of a personal device in rare instances such as an emergency for communication purposes, and when allowed as described in a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504 Plan, or Health Plan.
  • Personal laptops may be used for instructional activities in high school.

Please refer to HCPSS policy for policy violations.

Chromebooks

Please remember to bring your fully-charged, HCPSS-issued Chromebooks and chargers. You may want to bring your charger as well in case your battery does not last the entire day. Remember, the library does not loan chargers, but each classroom should have 1-2 chargers that you can borrow for a class period only.

Personal devices can only connect to the HCPSS Guest network. There is no guarantee that the device can connect or will stay connected to this network. HCPSS would prefer that you use your HCPSS-issued Chromebook instead. Your assigned device will be required for all technology-based quizzes, tests, state assessments, and PSATs/SATs.

If you have not used your Chromebook all summer, try to let it charge. If it does not turn on the first time, you can hold down the rounded arrow key (reset key) above the numbers 3-5 (depending on your model) and the power button at the same time until the light comes on. You may need to have it plugged in and charging in order for this reset to work. The device may not have recognized that it was charging until you have performed this reset.

Any questions? Come by the library media center the first week of school!

School Meals

Please visit the Food Services for the most up to date information regarding school lunches. https://www.hcpss.org/food-services/#linq. Apply Today for the Free and Reduced Meals Program, Families are encouraged to apply for the federal Free and Reduced Meals (FARMs) program, which encompasses more than free meals. Participation may also qualify students for free/reduced registration for SAT/ACT/AP, reduced program fees, discounted internet and computers, free college applications and more.

Attendance Policies and Procedures

Updated Student Absence/Early Dismissal Procedures 2025-2026

When a student is absent, the parent/guardian must report the absence to the school by emailing MHHSabsence@hcpss.org or sending in a note with your child. The e-mail/note should include the following:

  • Student first and last name - absence in the subject line
  • Send from the e-mail address on your family file
  • Date and reason for absence
  • Parent name and phone number

Upon receipt of the email/note, the attendance record in Synergy will be updated to reflect the excused absence.

A student has five days from the date of the absence to send a note. If the note is received after the five-day grace period, the absence will remain unexcused. If a note is not received, the absence will be documented as Truant (unexcused). Please see the Secondary Student Handbook for more information.

Late Arrival Procedures

Students who arrive late to school will enter through the main entrance. The student will proceed to the front office and see Ms. Ling or Ms. Summers, the attendance secretaries, to check-in. Students will be provided with a slip to share with their teacher. Students who are unexcused tardy to school will receive consequences after the third time.

If it is an excused tardy parents should email a note to mhhsabsence@hcpss.org. We will not accept handwritten notes. Please include:

  • Student first and last name and late arrival in the subject line
  • Send from the e-mail address on your family file
  • Indicate the reason for the late arrival.
  • Parent name and phone number

Early Dismissal Procedures

Please have your student bring their note to the front office in the morning. They will receive a pass to show their teacher and will be allowed to leave class and meet their parent/guardian in the parking lot (or drive themselves). The note should include:

  • The student’s first and last name (not a nickname)
  • Reason for early dismissal
  • Time of early dismissal
  • Parent signature and phone number
  • WilI the student will be returning.

  • Please pick your child up by 2:15pm. We will not be able to call kids out of class after 2:15pm due to dismissal and the bus loop being filled.
  • Please ask your student to check in at the front office if they return. Parents are welcome to sign their student out at the front office if it is a last minute appointment.
