Spillane Middle 25-26 (18)
Dear Spillane Parents and Guardians,
Happy Easter weekend!
I hope your family is enjoying the long weekend and has the opportunity to spend some meaningful time together before students return to school on Tuesday.
It has certainly been a full and busy week at Spillane. As we move into the final stretch of the school year, our focus remains the sameโsupporting our students, maintaining a safe and positive campus, and finishing the year strong. We appreciate the partnership we have with our families as we continue working together to guide our students in making good choices and representing Spillane well both in and out of the classroom.
Please take a few moments to review this weekโs newsletter. There are several important items included, such as information about summer school opportunities, school supply ordering for next year, end-of-year recess plans, and other upcoming events and reminders.
As always, thank you for your continued support of Spillane Middle School and the work our teachers and staff do each day for our students.
Sincerely,
Jamie Brotemarkle

๐ Coach Kalinec Named CFISD Middle School Coach of the Month!
We are excited to recognize Coach Kalinec for being named CFISD Middle School Coach of the Month! ๐ This is a well-deserved honor for someone who pours so much time, energy, and heart into our students every single day.
The award was presented during 7th grade girls athletics, and the reaction from our female athletes said it all. The cheers that erupted when Coach K was recognized were incredible! ๐ฃ It was a powerful reminder of just how much our students admire and appreciate her.
Coach Kalinec is truly beloved by our athletes and staff alike, and the excitement in that gym showed the impact she has on our Spartan community. We are so proud of her and grateful for the positive example she sets for our students every day. ๐๐

Partnering to Keep our Kids Safe in a Digital World
Dear Spillane Parents & Guardians,
Below you will find a set of digital safety tips that we wanted to share with our families. Please know that we are including these simply because we care deeply about the safety and well-being of our students. Our intention is never to tell anyone how to parent. Every family makes the decisions that are best for their children.
We also know that many students at Spillane still do not have a cell phone, and truthfully, I personally love this. As a parent, I often say I wish I had waited a little longer before giving our daughters their first phones.
A special thank you goes to our 8th grade counselor, Lori Hilsher, for creating such a clear and thoughtful list of recommendations for families to consider.
There are three additional ideas that are not on the tip sheet that I wanted to briefly share from my own experience as a parent. First, Mrs. Blume and I both created phone contracts with our own children when they first received their phones. We actually updated those contracts as they got older to reflect their age and maturity. Sitting down together to create and sign a contract provides a great opportunity to talk about expectations, appropriate use, and also the things they should never do with a technology device.
Second, my daughters are now in college, and one thing we wish we had done longer was delay allowing them to have their phones in their bedrooms at night. Please know that as a parent you should never feel bad about setting restrictions that you know are in place to help your child.
Third, one of the best decisions we made as parents was setting time restrictions on our daughtersโ phones. When they were in high school, they were convinced that I was the only parent who turned phones off at night, but I know that was not actually true. The funny part is that during her first semester in college at Texas A&M, my oldest daughter Ryan called me and asked if I would put the time restrictions back on her phone because she realized she was not getting enough sleep.
Our children simply do not yet have the ability to consistently self-monitor their technology use, no matter how mature or responsible they may seem. I trusted my daughters completely, but I am so glad we set healthy structures and boundaries to help keep them safe and well-rested.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please never hesitate to reach out if you ever need ideas, support, or someone to talk things through with. We are here for you, and we are here for every one of our students. Their safety will always matter to us. If you have not already explored them, I also encourage you to take a look at the safety and monitoring tools available on your childโs phone. I am certainly not very tech-savvy myself, so if I was able to figure it out, I know you can too.
Sincerely,
Jamie Brotemarkle

Immunization Reminder for 6th Grade Families
Two immunizations, Tdap and MCV4, are required by the State of Texas before entrance into 7th grade. Per Texas Law, students missing immunizations will not be allowed to attend classes for the 2026-2027 school year until their immunization record is up to date. We are hoping this notice will provide ample time to update your student's record before they become deficient in August 2026. These shots are given at the 11-year checkup, so some of our students may already have them completed. Please turn in an updated record to the nurse by emailing a copy to: SpillaneClinic@cfisd.net
Thank you!

Code of Conduct 2025-2026
All students participated in spring Code of Conduct presentations led by their grade-level Assistant Principals (we do this two times per year). These sessions served as a reminder of campus expectations and an opportunity for students to reset and refocus. A copy of the presentation is linked below for you to review with your Spartan.
As a reminder, we will continue enforcing key campus policies, including:
โข Tardies (Arriving to school after 7:45 a.m. will only be excused with a doctorโs note)
โข Student ID badge requirements and fees (Charges for missing or lost badges)
โข Dress code
Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.

Car Rider Information
We would genuinely appreciate it if all parents and guardians of our car riders would take a few minutes to watch our car rider tips and tricks. Please remind any student walking across the street to use the intersection where Officer Pacheco is located. Parents and students cannot walk through our parking lot during arrival and dismissal times for student safety.
Personal Communication Devices
A new Texas law (House Bill 1481) requires school districts to prohibit student use of all personal communication devices during the school day. Therefore, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is updating its personal communication device policy.
For the 2025-2026 school year, the use of all personal communication devices is prohibited during the school day. Devices must be turned off and stored in the studentโs personal bag or backpack at all times.
Please review the law and FAQ below with your student(s) prior to the start of the 2025-26 school year.

Attendance for Credit (The 90% Rule)
In accordance with state law, students must be in attendance for at least 90% of the days a class is offered in order to receive credit or a final grade. This requirement applies regardless of whether absences are excused or unexcused.
*Exception: Students with a documented severe or life-threatening illness may qualify for an exemption through the Attendance Committee review process.
If you have any questions regarding your childโs attendance or how it may impact credit, please reach out to our attendance office.
