Hanover Street School Newsletter October 23, 2023

We've had lots of pumpkin themed activities at school. The kindergarten classes went on a field trip to Cedar Circle Farm and each child returned to school with a pumpkin. We also brought in four enormous pumpkins from the school garden and classes all guessed how much much they weighed. The winning classes decorated them and they are now on display at the front of the school. The 2nd graders in the photo above were both excited and slightly hesitant to stick their hands in the pumpkin to pull out the insides. In the end, everyone seemed to enjoy it!

The Halloween parade next week will be a fun way to wrap up the season. Hope to see everyone there!

Thank you from the staff to so many of you

It was such a wonderful surprise to find a fully stocked 'Snack Shack' in the staff room! We all loved the sweet notes that were taped around the display.

Halloween Parade on October 31st

The Halloween Parade will be on the high school track beginning at 1:45 and ended at 2:15. Please try to walk or carpool as parking will be tight this year with the construction. There are some parking spots in front of the school. If you park on Evans Drive, please park only on the side without the sidewalk and pull far over to avoid blocking the road for the buses.

Your children can bring school appropriate costumes to school with them on this day. They will change into costumes towards the end of the day. If it rains, we will parade inside the school and parents can line the hallways. We hope that you will join us to watch!

Anxious Nation

If you have some time this rainy weekend, I would highly recommend watching “Anxious Nation.” It is a documentary about the mental health crisis that is impacting so many of our children right now.

Wondering what the differences are among colds, the flu, and Covid? Check out this informative article from The New York Times:

STUDENT FLU CLINIC

Hanover Street School hosted a Flu Clinic on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12 and vaccinated close to 90 students! We are appreciative of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Community Health Improvement for their time and help in keeping our students healthy.

Are you wondering about getting COVID Vaccines? Most doctor’s offices don’t have them yet, but I recommend calling and checking in over the next couple of weeks.

MEDICATIONS AND INJURIES

Elementary school aged children are not allowed to carry around their own medication (inhalers, epi pens, or pills). Please avoid sending in medication with your child unless you first notify a teacher or nurse to keep everyone safe. If your child needs medication at school, please contact me. We can review what is needed for this to happen.

In addition, should your child get injured (either in school or outside of school), please let me know what the doctor’s orders are in regards to recommended activity. We want to keep children safe at school while also allowing their bodies (and bones) to heal. Thank you for your help.

Should you have any questions about your child’s health, please contact me.

Be Well,

Finding Our Stride Finding Our Stride

We just finished our fall season of Finding Our Stride. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams had a fantastic season! The kids worked hard, made new friends, learned teamwork and got stronger and faster. We participated in the CHaD HERO race. All of the FOS teams across NH and VT raised $74,823 for Dartmouth Health Children's and the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center!

We are planning a spring FOS season at HSS, so please stay tuned. Flyers will go out before April vacation, and practices will begin shortly after the break. Thank you to Tracy Hazen for your help! Thank you to runners and parents for a wonderful season!!!
