Principal's Message
Dear Lakeside Families,
What a great start to the school year at Lakeside! Our students and staff have jumped right into learning, building relationships, and creating the kind of school community that makes Lakeside special. Thank you to our families for helping us start the year with such positive energy and excitement!
We are continuing our conversation about our ISEE values: Integrity, Safety, Engagement, and Excellence. We are focusing on Safety and what it means to help everyone feel physically and emotionally safe at school. Safety is a shared responsibility, and every student and adult plays an important role in creating a school where everyone can learn, belong, and feel supported. Check out this safety video with your family here: SAFETY VIDEO.
We are grateful for the many family and community members who give their time to support our students. Whether you are reading with a student, helping with an activity, supporting a school event, or lending a hand in another way, your involvement makes a difference. If you are interested in volunteering at Lakeside, please reach out to the school office to learn more about opportunities to get involved.
As conferences approach, we are looking forward to the opportunity to strengthen the connection between families and teachers. These conversations are an important part of understanding each child, celebrating their growth, and working together to support their continued learning. We value our families as partners, and we look forward to working together to help every Lakeside student have a successful year.

Automatic Opt-In Status: Once online registration is completed, students are automatically opted-in for scheduled field trips.

Phy-Ed Update-September 2026
Hello Lakeside Families!
The first few days of Physical Education have been wonderful! We have been learning routines and expectations and getting lots of movement opportunities. Students in kindergarten through second grade are spending time learning and reviewing foundational movements skills, such as pathways, speeds, levels, and directional cues, during game play. Students in third through fifth grade kicked-off the year with a team building unit. We will also take time to learn and review a few favorite playground games.
Our next unit will focus on throwing and catching. Please take some time to practice overhand and underhand throwing over the next few weeks. Tennis balls, footballs, baseballs, Koosh balls, or teddy bears will do the trick!
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at stephanie.homman@oshkosh.k12.wi.us. Thank you!
Art Update-September 2026
5th Grade - Weβve begun the year with a texture and value study.
4th Grade - 4th is using a new technique to watercolor their roses.
3rd Grade - Monochromatic color schemes and silhouettes make up our image by the sea.
2nd Grade - Abstract or Realistic? Youβll have to ask your second grader which they chose for their cow.
1st Grade - 1st graders practice with lines in their wax resist of a cubist duck.
Kindergarten - βFβ is for Flower. We are learning classroom expectations while we paint with different media.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me at melody.wollangk@oshkosh.k12.wi.us
Music Update-September 2026
K-1: We are learning about keeping a steady beat with instruments and following the leader in fun movement activities. We are also learning about being good audience members while watching a performance!
2-5: We are reviewing how to read rhythms by playing fun games like "poison rhythm". We signed up for our classroom jobs in music, which means our news reports have started! Students are able to share musical connections in their lives outside of school every class through this student-led brain smart start (3-5 only).
We are all excited to start working on our winter concert music soon. See you on November 30th!
If you have any questions, please reach out to me at robin.crooks@oshkosh.k12.wi.us
School Counselor Update-September 2026
A Note From The Health Office
Hello Lakeside Families-
FRIENDLY REMINDER: When calling your child's school to report their absence, please relay the symptoms they are having to the school office so that the District can continue to monitor illness symptoms in the school setting and within classrooms.
Happy Fall, Y'all! As the weather starts dipping down, leaves start changing colors, and football is back in season, it's that time of year we start seeing an increase of cold and flu-like symptoms. We want to help you remain HEALTHY and strong to check of ALL of the adventures on your Fall Bucket List. The number one way to prevent the spread of illness is with good hand washing! Below are some ways we can help minimize the spread of illness in our school.
- Teaching and reminding good hand washing to our students/children
- Teaching and reminding to cover coughs and sneezes (in your elbow...NOT hands)
- Utilize a mask IF comfortable, but not required (to protect yourself or others)
- Sanitizing common and high touch surfaces in your classroom and home routinely
- Stay home if you have a fever, vomiting/diarrhea, severe cough, or generally feeling unwell
- Get plenty of rest and water
Hand Washing topic is a great link to utilize to help remind ourselves and students/children of good hand washing etiquette! With your help, we can work to keep ourselves and others healthy!
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Health Assistant/ LPN Mrs. Jesaca Schaefer regarding your childβs health needs. She can be reached at our health office at 424-0131 ext: 3855.
Thank you,

Attendance Office Information
Every school day is a vital opportunity for your child to learn, grow, and build academic confidence. When your elementary student is in class, they engage in essential lessons and develop crucial social skills alongside their peers. Consistent attendance helps establish a predictable routine, allowing them to feel secure and successful in their learning environment. . Your support in ensuring they arrive on time every day is a powerful investment in their future, setting them up for long-term achievements. Please note that to ensure all students stay on track, a letter of concern will be sent out when a student misses 8 days of school. We appreciate your partnership in making daily school attendance a top priority.
All reports of a student absence must go through the school office. If your child(ren) are sick for multiple days, please notify us each day they are absent.
All communication regarding your studentβs attendanceβincluding appointments, late arrivals, or early departuresβmust be sent to the office. You may copy your childβs teacher on the message, and the office will also ensure that attendance information is shared with the classroom teacher.
To avoid an unexcused absence, all student absences must be reported to the main office at
920-424-0131. If you leave a voicemail, be sure to include your studentβs full name, grade, reason for absence, and any symptoms they may be experiencing. You may also report absences by emailing the school secretary at: kylene.schrage@oshkosh.k12.wi.us.
Infinite Campus (IC) Portal:
You can submit preplanned absence requests online through Infinite Campus. In IC, go to More > Absence Request. Please be sure to fill out all fields completely so we can accurately mark your studentβs attendance.
If you need to pick up your student early for any reason, please notify the main office ahead of time. We kindly ask that you allow a minimum of 1 hour notice if your student needs to leave the building early so we have enough time to locate and prepare your student.
As always, please feel free to reach out to the main office with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your help and cooperation!
Arrival Procedures
Due to the location of Lakeside being on a major highway, children are not allowed to walk or ride bikes to school.
Parents are encouraged to have their children ride the bus to ensure they will arrive at the same time as the other students. Buses will unload on the east side of the building for arrival and dismissal. Buses will be unloaded at Lakeside at 7:15 a.m. by a recess supervisor. Upon arrival at school, children will go to the playground. After school, buses will be loaded by 2:50 p.m.
When dropping off students at Lakeside, please drive in the north entrance. Park in a space along the north side (facing the building) near Door #10 and walk your child to the supervisor near the playground. Adults are not allowed on the playground unless they have checked into the office and are wearing a badge.
Dismissal Procedures
Busing is the way most Lakeside students get home at the end of the day. If you want to pick up your child(ren), please park in a stall, facing the school; exit your vehicle and notify the staff outside who you are picking up. Students in grades K-3 will exit through Door #11. Students in grades 4-5 will exit through Door #10.
If a child is not picked up by 2:50 p.m., we will make a phone call home or to an emergency contact.
A phone call to the secretary or an email to the secretary and teacher is necessary if:
β Your childβs normal after school plan is changing
β Your child is being picked up by another parent
β Your child is being picked up by someone other than their parent
β Your child is planning to ride another bus
β Your child is staying for an afterschool activity
*Telling your child is not sufficient. You must provide written notification or contact the office preferably before noon or as soon as possible so the proper individuals may be made aware of the special plans.

π« Vacation & Pre-Planned Absences
Planning a family vacation or extended time away from school? Please be sure to notify the school office in advance! Students have important learning and assessments throughout the year, and advance notice allows teachers to plan accordingly and share any work that may need to be completed prior to the absence.
To help us best support your child, please complete a Pre-Planned Absence Form before your trip.
π Pre-Planned Absence Form Can Be Found: HERE
Thank you for helping us keep learning on trackβeven when students are away!
Volunteering Reminders
If you are interested in volunteering by helping in your child's classroom or chaperoning a field trip, you must have a pre-approved volunteer application on file before the volunteering event. If you HAVE NOT filled out a volunteer application please click HERE to begin the application process. If you are unsure of your volunteer status, please email Kylene Schrage. All verified backgrounds checks are good for three years, and are effective for all OASD schools. If you have any questions about this process, please contact our school office at 920.424.0131 or kylene.schrage@oshkosh.k12.wi.us
Important!: Once you have completed your application, let the office know so that we can request that the application be processed; this does not happen automatically, and can take up to 3-4 business days, so please plan accordingly!
