YCIS-SV CommunityConnectionSeptember 6, 2024

Dear YCIS Community,

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for making our K-8 Back-to-School Night such a success! We truly appreciate your participation and support. We look forward to another engaging evening for our ECE families next Thursday at their Back-to-School Night.

This week, we also held our first Coffee Social of the year, and it was wonderful to see so many of you there. It was a great opportunity for parents and school leaders to connect and engage in meaningful conversations. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Next week, we are excited to welcome Mr. Martin Scott, the YCIS-SV Board Chair and Educational Director from YCYW Hong Kong, to our campus. He will be joining us for various events, including our Mid-Autumn Moon Festival celebration.

Speaking of which, we invite all of you to join us for the Moon Festival celebration next Saturday, September 14th, at 9:30 a.m. on our K-8 campus. It promises to be a fun and festive morning, and we look forward to seeing you there!

We're thrilled to announce a new vendor, Amazing Athletes, to our afternoon enrichment program on the ECE Campus. Amazing Athletes will take place on Mondays. Please see your classroom enrichment schedule posted in the class for the specific time. The children will have the opportunity to learn about and participate in different sports, develop their physical skills, practice teamwork, and understand the importance of exercise and healthy lifestyle habits. We believe this new addition will be a valuable asset to our afternoon enrichment program. Please join us in welcoming Amazing Athletes to YCIS and we look forward to the exciting experiences they will bring to our children!

Our first safety drill of the year, where our students practiced safely exiting the campus and following established procedures. Their attentiveness and cooperation during the drill ensured a smooth and orderly process, reinforcing the importance of being prepared in case of emergencies. We are proud of their efforts and encourage everyone to continue prioritizing safety.

Our students eagerly volunteered to assist with campus clean-up, showing a commendable commitment to our campus. Their enthusiastic participation in picking up trash around the campus not only improved its appearance but also inspired a sense of pride and responsibility within the community. We commend their efforts and hope it inspires others to care for our shared spaces.

Our middle school students are engaged in a variety of exciting activities across subjects. In science, they are diving into lab experiments and mastering the scientific method, while in math, students creatively used Bingo cards to explore math concepts interactively. Fifth graders in social studies created posters on Native American tribes, blending creativity with history, and sixth/seventh graders in English reflected on a documentary tied to the Hero’s Journey, learning about personal growth and overcoming challenges. In Chinese One, students are studying ancient Chinese inventions, imagining how they might evolve, while Chinese Two students are exploring Chinese mythology and its influence on modern society.

Learning at YALP is always varied and full of fun!

This week, our Kinder students explored the concept of time by learning to read clocks and matching pictures of different times with their daily routines to create personalized schedules and improve efficiency.

In 1st grade, teamwork was key. Students engaged in Chinese letter games to strengthen their language skills, experimented with different materials to create bigger bubbles and were encouraged to buddy read.

Science is a favorite for all, and our 2nd graders used their imagination to design 3D maze games, testing and voting on the most challenging one to solve.

Meanwhile, upper-grade students turned to nature for inspiration, collecting leaves to create a beautiful art piece, now proudly displayed in the courtyard. Their creativity truly shines!
