A Weekly Newsletter for Warrior Families and Students
November 6, 2026
Dear Warrior Families and Students,
Happy Friday, Warrior Families!
There was an incredible buzz in our halls this week with our Milwaukee Brewers capturing the World Series title. For me, it was really cool to see our students from all corners of the building uniting behind a community event. The Brewers captivated the city and country because of what they represent -- hard work, belief, support of each other, and and incredible drive for excellence. In some ways, the Brewers are what we want our Warriors to become. Their culture of shared accountability and what Murphy calls the "power of friendship" is what the "Warrior's Way" and "1Warrior" are all about!
Mastering the "Big" Projects
The Brewers became a championship team by developing the ability to take complex skills and improve small aspects of them over time; academic success is very similar in that it relies heavily on strong executive functioning skills—specifically, the ability to break complex, overwhelming tasks into small, manageable actions.
Students often procrastinate or avoid large assignments such as papers, projects, exam preparation because they are overwhelmed and don't know where to start. Sometimes this avoidance can appear to be laziness or manifest as frustration. Encourage your student to "chunk" the task:
- Deconstruct the assignment: Divide the final deliverable into distinct, bite-sized phases (e.g., topic selection, gathering sources, outlining, drafting, and editing).
Assign micro-deadlines: Put internal calendar targets on each phase well ahead of the final due date.
Focus on the next single step: Commit a smaller amount of focused effort to just one sub-task rather than trying to finish the entire project in a marathon session. Perhaps 20 minutes is a good target.
By breaking things into manageable tasks, students build skill and confidence! Those "small wins" add up!
Have an amazing weekend!
