Valentine's Day Parties on Friday at 2pm!
Dear BES Families,
I don't know about you, but I have plans at 5pm tonight!!! So let's get this newsletter going! We had a SUPER week at BES! So many fun memories were made and I just cannot thank our PTO enough! They brought us lunch on Wednesday for conferences, helped decorate our commons, and were instrumental in our Soup-er Bowl Challenge!
Our total number of soup for the SOUP-er BOWL Challenge was 5,280 cans! A huge thank you to Cosentino's for their amazing donation. All of the donations are staying right here in Louisburg at our Agape Food Pantry. I will NOT be wearing green during the Super Bowl! Johnson Elementary received 3,600 cans. The real winners are our communities who will benefit from all those amazing donations! It feels so good when we give and this was a perfect example of our Mindset, Live to Give!
The weather looks a little snowy this week, but I am hoping and wishing that it will blow right on by! Not so sure it will! We hope to see you on Friday for our classroom Valentine's Day parties. If your student needs cards to pass out, please reach out and we will send some home! If you have cards you can donate, please send in to the office. We have been making Valentines for Veterans and we will be delivering those this week as well.
Have a great week and GO CHIEFS!

Mindset Minute with Mrs. McIntire
In February we will be learning about the Passion First mindset! We will talk about finding your strengths, exploring interests & find ways to use them for good. We love to see what our students are passionate about outside of school! Please send us a photo of your student doing something they love and are passionate about! It can be a sport, a hobby, time with beloved people, etc. Photos can be sent to the classroom teacher or directly to Mrs. McIntire at mcintires@usd416.org. They will be printed and hung up on the bulletin board in the commons during the month of February!
Thank You💜

Attendance and School Calendars
Receive an Attendance Email from School?
If you receive an attendance letter from school, it is meant to inform you of your student's absences or tardies. This way you can also keep track of the days gone and how to plan ahead to
miss fewer days.
When Your Child Misses School:
One week gone is approximately 7.5 hours of instruction lost in reading and in math. That doesn't include the extra time teachers provide to check for understanding and mastery of concepts so they can move on to the next concept. We see some students really struggle to get caught back up when they've missed extended time. We attempt to make it up during school hours, but your child may be required to stay after school to work with teachers or our tutors.
Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.
Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!
If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.
GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!
