1. Digital Citizenship Week 10/19-10/23

October 19 through October 23 is Digital Citizenship Week, a time to promote safe, responsible, and ethical use of technology. MCPS students may earn up to five SSL hours by watching Digital Citizenship videos and completing a follow-up advocacy activity. Students who wish to participate must complete the Digital Citizenship Week SSL form by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23. Additional information and the participation link are provided below.

As we recognize Digital Citizenship Week, we also encourage families to continue the conversation at home about safe, responsible, and healthy technology use. Families can explore the Kids and Tech video series and use the Family Activity Game Cards for grades 6–8 to spark meaningful conversations about navigating the digital world. The family activity cards are available in both English and Spanish, and links to all resources are provided below.

3. High School Registration Event at Parkland 10/21

We are excited that our 8th grade students are beginning to explore their high school region for the next school year. As MCPS transitions to a Regional Model, we want to make sure families have the information they need to support their students throughout this process.

For this reason, we are hosting a family information meeting about the new high school regional program on Wednesday, October 21, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Parkland. At this meeting, we will discuss the different options students have for high school including regional programs, interest-based programs, and criteria-based programs. We will also review the process for filling out the high school program choice forms via ParentVUE.

There will be in-person Spanish translation for this meeting as well as a virtual option for families who are not able to attend in person. The link to the virtual meeting will be on the school website by Tuesday, October 20th.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your student’s counselor or Mrs. Floyd, Parkland Middle Schools AEIST at Catherine_T_Floyd@mccpsmd.org.
