Read-A-Thon Fundraiser!

We are excited to kick off our 2026 Hornung Read-A-Thon as part of March is Reading Month!

From March 6–March 20, students can track the time they spend reading while helping raise funds for our school. This fundraiser supports the experiences that make Hornung such a special place to learn and grow, including student enrichment, field trips, classroom support, and schoolwide events.

How the Read-A-Thon Works

Each student will receive a reading tracker on Friday.

Students should color one candy for every 20 minutes of reading. Students who color all 12 candies will earn an Oompa Loompa to be displayed on our school Read-A-Thon wall and receive a special treat!

Students are encouraged to continue reading to help their class compete for the highest total reading minutes, with the winning class in each grade earning extra recess.

All types of reading count — independent reading, audiobooks, and reading with someone.

Fundraising Through 99Pledges

We are using 99Pledges, an easy online platform that allows friends and family to support our students with donations.

To get started, add your student here:

https://app.99pledges.com/fund/HornungReads2026/addme

Under Group - select your child's teacher. Once added, you will receive a welcome email containing a link to your child's personal fundraising link that you can share with friends and family.

Help us reach our goal of $15,000 - about $27 per student.

Hornung Hut 3/23 & 3/24!

Our spring kick-off Hornung Hut is coming up! We need volunteers to act as cashiers and provide support while they are shopping. Please sign up at the link below!

Parent Connect has a quick and easy way to report your child's absence.

  • Log into Parent Connect
  • If you have more than one child, select the student who will be absent.
  • Click Report Absence on the top right corner.
  • Enter the date(s) of the absence.
  • If your child will be gone all day, check the All Day box so it applies to both morning and afternoon. Or, if your child will only miss part of the day, enter the specific times.
  • Finally select a Reason and make sure to include in the Notes why your child will be absent (illness, doctor visit, vacation etc.) If your child has been diagnosed with something specific (like COVID, strep throat, pink eye, flu, chickenpox, etc.), please mention that in Notes.

If you report an absence through Parent Connect, you do not need to call the attendance line.

Parents please pack an extra set of weather appropriate clothes in your child's backpack each day. Bathroom accidents, spills, mud puddles or unexpected messes can happen, and having a spare outfit will help keep your child comfortable throughout the day. This way, we can take care of any changes at school, and you won't have to make a trip to bring them. Thank you for your support!
