MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Franklin Students and Families,

We have a very busy day coming up on Wednesday, October 15th. On this day:

  • Sophomores will be taking the PreACT in specific classrooms in the building. Students should go directly to the assigned classroom in the morning.
  • Juniors who have registered in advance will be taking the PSAT in the gym building.
  • All other juniors will attend the Hollywood Theater Career Event field trip. Students will learn about design careers in the film industry. Click here for the information flyer and permission slip that needs to be submitted by the 15th.
  • Freshmen will attend a variety of activities based on their 9th grade community teachers.
  • Seniors will attend presentations and workshops to complete graduation requirements in the library.

On Friday, October 17th our FHS Bands will participate in the annual Play-a-thon starting at 4:00pm. Below is a message from Jason Owens, our director of FHS bands:

Supporting the Franklin High School Lightning Band is a great way to make a difference in the lives of talented young musicians. The upcoming Play-a-thon on Friday, October 17th is not just a fundraiser; it's a celebration of our vibrant band community. By donating, you can help cover essential costs like new marching uniforms, professional workshops, and travel expenses for competitions.

Every contribution, no matter the size, directly impacts these students and enhances their experience. The Lightning Band Boosters are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so your donations are tax-deductible. If you want to give a shout-out to a specific student, you can do that too! Join the live stream and show your support.

Your generosity ensures that Franklin High School Band continues to shine and inspire. Thank you for considering a donation!

Good luck to all of our students testing on Wednesday and juniors, don’t forget to get the permission slip signed by your parent or guardian for the field trip.

Have a great 3-day weekend!

NEW: The Drowsy Chaperone

The Drowsy Chaperone is a meta-musical parody of 1920s musical comedies, where a musical theatre fan, the "Woman in Chair," listens to a record of a fictional 1928 show of the same name. As the music plays, the show comes to life in her apartment, featuring a young Broadway starlet Janet van de Graaff who wants to marry for love, her producer who needs her to stay in show business, her comically inebriated chaperone, a Latin lover, and gangsters. The audience experiences the 1920s musical through the Woman in Chair's commentary and reactions, which include observing its cliched plot, stock characters, and musical numbers, all while learning about the narrator's own melancholic life.

You have 6 chances to see the Franklin Theater Department's rendition of The Drowsy Chaperone:

  • Friday, November 7th at 7:00 pm
  • Saturday, November 8th at 7:00 pm
  • Sunday, November 9th at 2:00 pm
  • Thursday, November 13th at 7:00 pm
  • Friday, November 14th at 7:00 pm
  • Saturday, November 15th at 7:00 pm

October 15th PreACT/PSAT Info

On Wednesday, October 15th we will have a special schedule due to PreACT/PSAT testing in the building.

All sophomores will be taking the PreACT and testing in classrooms. Juniors who signed up for the optional PSAT will test in the gym.

Freshman will be in-house doing breakout sessions with their community teachers in the S wing. Information will be shared out to students through their community teachers.

Juniors NOT taking the PSAT will attend a field trip to the Hollywood Theater to learn about careers in Prop Design, Art Directing, and Video Production. This event will count towards a CRLE required for graduation. You can print a permission form and view a flyer for this event here. Please see Martin Rodriguez in the Career Center for more information and to pick up a permission form ASAP. Drop the signed form off in the main office or in the College and Career Center by Tuesday, October 14th.

Seniors will participate in a variety of presentations and workshops in-house. Entrepreneur and electrician guest speakers will start off the morning in the library which will count towards a CRLE required for graduation. Personalized Learning Requirements (PLRs) workshops will be offered in the Career Center. College related presentations around connecting Common App to MaiaLearning and Scholarships will be available, as well as, a workshop on applying to Oregon Promise.

Attendance:

A handful of volunteers are needed to make this opportunity possible. If you would like to chaperone, please fill out this google form. The form will close once seven folks have signed up.

Join the SE Snowboard Team!

No snowboarding experience is necessary!

The snowboarding season runs January 7th through late February, with state competitions occurring in early March, 2026. Practices are every Wednesday at Mt. Hood Meadows. A bus will leave Cleveland High School at 2:00pm and will return at approximately 10:30pm each week. There is also a bus for Meadows on many weekends, either Saturday or Sunday for competitions.

Competitions take place on the weekends for 4 events: Border Cross, Banked Slalom, Slopestyle, and Half Pipe. Riders do not have to compete but are encouraged to give it a try. Remember, no experience is necessary; lots of riders have started out their snowboarding journeys with the team! We want our riders to enjoy the amazing winter atmosphere and awesome fun of snowboarding on the mountain.

Please come to our Information Night on Thursday, Oct 16th from 7:00-8:30pm at NEVER COFFEE, 4243 SE Belmont. https://www.southeastsnowboardteam.org/
