Dear Syracuse Junior High Families,

We hope you've had a wonderful summer so far and are enjoying time with family and friends. As we prepare for a new school year, we'd like to share a few important dates to help your family get ready for the start of school!

Important Dates & Items to Review:

• August 7: Student schedules available in MyDSD

• August 7: Sign disclosures using MyDSD

• August 12: New Student Registration (call our office at 801-402-6800 to make an appointment)

• August 18: 7th Grade Seahawk Bootcamp, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

• August 18: Back-to-School Night, 5:00–6:30 p.m.

• August 20: FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!! (A Day)

New Student Registration for families new to Syracuse Junior High, we have one more day for registration on August 12th from 8:30-2:30 pm. Please call our front office (801-402-6800) to make an appointment to meet with a counselor. Parents are welcome to stop by the office ahead of time to pick up a registration packet to help speed up the registration process.

Our incoming 7th graders are invited to attend Seahawk Bootcamp on August 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This event helps students become familiar with the school, meet staff, and feel prepared for junior high. The students will also be issued their school issued laptop to use for the time that they are at this school. However, they will ONLY be issued their laptop early if the "DSD Discretionary Protection Plan for Electronic Devices" (found on your MyDSD account under "Sign Documents") has been signed by a parent or guardian.

We also invite all families to attend Back-to-School Night Open House on August 18 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet teachers, find your classrooms, and learn about the upcoming school year.

Class schedules will be available in the MyDSD app TODAY after 3PM. We encourage students and families to review schedules before the start of school. Our Counselors will be sending emails to parents with instructions on how to make a request for a class change if it's needed. To ensure all requests are handled fairly and consistently, we are unable to accept schedule change requests by email. Please look for the email from SJH Counselors and follow the instructions provided. Or you can click on the link below to be take to a form for the change request. As you prepare for back-to-school shopping, we appreciate your partnership in helping students come to school dressed for a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. Before making your purchases, we encourage you to review our dress code and other school policies by clicking HERE.

Our school policies are designed to minimize distractions, promote safety, foster respect for one another, and help create an environment where every student can focus on learning and be successful.

Thank you for taking the time to review these expectations with your student before the school year begins. By working together, we can help ensure a positive and productive school experience for everyone. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the school office.

Students at SJH will receive a school-supplied laptop. Those in 8th and 9th graders were allowed to keep those over the summer. All incoming 7th graders (and those new to the school and those who turned theirs in at the end of last school year) will be issued theirs before school starts or within the first couple days of school. The Davis School District offers the opportunity to purchase a Device Protection Plan. Enrollment in the plan is optional with the understanding that if students/parents DO NOT enroll in the protection plan, they may carry full liability for the laptop. The plan may be purchased through MyDSD app under "Optional fees and fines" and is listed as a Device Protection Plan. To be eligible, the plan must be purchased by September 4, 2026. The Protection Plan is only valid for the current school year. You will need to purchase it again even if you have purchased it in the past.
