Next year Boyden will switch to being an "early school". Every 3 years the elementary schools in Walpole rotate late and early school hours. For the 2025 - 2026 school year we will have an official start time of 8:30a and an end time of 3:00p.

  • The doors will open to students each morning at 8:20 AM.
  • Early Release will be 11:55 AM
  • Click here for the times across the district.

If you received an email from Lifetouch. please disregard. Spring pictures were last week.

Have a nice weekend!

Battle of the Books

Battle Day is almost here! Next Thursday, April 17th, students in grades 3-5 will participate in the Battle of the Books. Teams of students will showcase their knowledge by answering trivia questions based on our 13 Battle books. Preparation has been underway for months, with students reading, practicing author names, and even creating posters. On the day, snacks will be provided, or students are welcome to bring their own from home. They can also show their team spirit by dressing in team colors or as their team logo. We're looking forward to a day celebrating reading, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. We would like to thank Walpole Co-operative Bank and Dedham Savings for their generous sponsorship, which made it possible to provide the books for this enriching program.

What are the Students Learning in PE?

K: Kindergarten classes have started to learn how to use paddles. We spent a few weeks learning how to use a paddle, before we started playing a variety of fun games! Students used a variety of equipment with the paddles that focused on balance, hand-eye coordination, level changes, throw and catch, bouncing and striking. We used anything from bouncy balls to bean bags to assist in learning these important skills.

1st: First grade classes have also learned how to use paddles. They spent a few weeks learning

how to use a paddle, before we started playing a variety of fun games! Students used a variety

of equipment with the paddles that focused on balance, hand-eye coordination, level changes,

throw and catch, bouncing and striking. We used anything from bouncy balls to bean bags to

assist in learning these important skills.

2nd: Second grade PE classes revisited the paddle unit with the focus on striking. All second

grade classes have started learning to strike an object with the paddle using a bouncy ball.

These skills will be a foundation for later sports such as; pickleball, racquetball or ping pong.

Second grade also worked cooperatively with classmates on this skill throughout the unit.

3rd: Third graders have started to learn the game of volleyball. Students learned some of the

basic rules of the game, along with the necessary skills. We focused more on passing the ball

and working with teammates.

4th: Fourth graders are starting their unit in volleyball. Students are revisiting this unit and

working together on passing, shooting and playing defense. Emphasis is placed on working

together to move the ball on offense and how to play defense.

5th: Fifth grade are starting their final unit in volleyball. This is an exciting sport for them as they

learned the history and origins of volleyball. Fifth graders have acquired skills for the game of

volleyball that will carry them throughout middle school.
