Shout Outs
Congratulations to our Students of the Week!
- Olivia Robinson – 10th grade – nominated by Mrs. Bolen – She says of Olivia, “Olivia has a learner's mindset and has shown critical thinking skills in Biology. She is able to take the content we are learning and put together complex ideas about the world around her as well as what's happening in her own body. Olivia has put a lot of time and effort into learning Biology and holds herself responsible for learning and growing as a student. I am so thankful to have Olivia in my Biology 1 class.”
Ivy Wireko – 11th grade - nominated by Mr. Henderson – He says of Ivy, “Ivy has a learner’s mindset. She has set a standard for herself in Honors Math 3. She asks questions and works hard on all assignments so that she ensures herself the highest grade possible in the class.”
Congratulations to both of these students!
Joyful Learning
Speech Speed Dating
AP Lang students participated in a speed dating activity where they each chose a famous American speech from the “Top 100” list and completed an analysis of it. Then they had rounds of 2 minutes to share an overview and the key rhetorical features of their speech before debriefing as a class.
Certifications
The first two Microsoft Office Specialist certifications are up in Mrs. Haynes' room!
Ragsdale Mariachi Band had its first gig this week at Grandover. Proud of our Tigers!
Track Celebrations and Science Explorations!
Potential NC FAME students were invited to tour the Honda Jet Facility and even experience flying a plane using a flight simulator. Students were able to sit in and explore a new model of a private jet in the design stage right now and give their seal of approval. They even tested out the cockpit of the model plane. Afterwards, GTCC provided lunch and students learned about the NC FAME program that provides college coursework with paid, on-the-job training and experience with world class companies.
Ms. Crane’s Business Management 2 class participated in the GTCC Supply Chain Cookie Challenge. Students were given various models to control the cost of their cookies and the team that did the best in controlling the cost won the competition. The prize was a $25 gift card to Crumbl Cookie each and all of us were able to enjoy cookies made by the GTCC Culinary Program.
Seniors participating at the GCS Next Steps “Hire for Success” Fair at GTCC Cameron Campus. Eight seniors participated in this event to go and do a learning session about preparing for the future, enjoying lunch and then meeting with potential employers.
