Macy's Thanksgiving Parade
One of the biggest highlights of our Thanksgiving season was our annual Macy’s Day Parade—and this year’s event was extra special! For the first time, our students were able to parade around the gym in front of a live audience filled with parents, grandparents, siblings, and community members. The crowd participation brought an incredible energy that truly elevated the entire experience.
If you missed it, no worries—the parade is posted on Facebook for 30 days so you can still enjoy the magic!
Our band sounded fantastic, and their costume changes added a fun twist that made it look as though they were performing from a completely different school or place. Students also showed off their creativity and teamwork by designing and building backdrops, vehicles, Santa’s sleigh, floats, and balloons. One of the most unforgettable moments was seeing Mr. and Mrs. Claus being pulled around the gym in a student-built sleigh by our “reindeer”—a crowd favorite!
A huge thank you to Mrs. Culjan and Mrs. Craven for bringing this tradition to life each year in STEAM. We’re already counting down to next year on the Monday of Thanksgiving week—so go ahead and mark your calendars!
Winter Weather: Be Prepared!
As we move into the colder months, please make sure your child comes to school each day with proper winter gear. Hats, gloves, coats, snow pants, and boots are required for any student who wants to play in the snow. We will go outside for recess as long as the wind chill is 20°F or above, so warm layers are important!
Students in grades 5–8 also travel between the main building and the trailer throughout the day, so appropriate coats and footwear are essential for staying safe and comfortable.
Thank you for helping our students enjoy a fun—and warm—winter season!

Student Attendance Celebrations!
We are excited to share some encouraging news about student attendance! Over the past year, our efforts to celebrate consistent attendance through our monthly Atten-Dances and other recognition activities are making a real difference.
To give some perspective: during the first trimester of 2023–2024, before we began our monthly celebrations:
- 38 students missed 5 or more days of school,
- 23 missed 6 or more days,
- 11 missed 8 or more days, and
- 4 missed 10 or more days.
Last year, during the first trimester of 2024–2025, we saw improvement:
- 22 students missed 5 or more days,
- 16 missed 6 or more days,
- 7 missed 8 or more days, and
- 4 missed 10 or more days.
This year, during the first trimester of 2025–2026, our attendance continues to improve:
- 21 students missed 5 or more days,
- 8 missed 6 or more days,
- 4 missed 8 or more days, and
- no students missed 10 or more days!
We know many families take week-long vacations during the school year. While we encourage families to limit extended absences to support learning continuity, we understand there are many factors to consider when planning family time. We ask that you communicate with your child’s teacher(s), as well as Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Hewitt, who handle our daily attendance calls, so your child can make up any missed work.
Thank you to our students and families for helping us make attendance a priority. Your participation and enthusiasm for our celebrations are motivating our students to come to school and engage fully in their learning!
December Attendance Sponsor

Preschool
This year’s first Pre-K Downtown Utica Halloween Celebration was one to remember! Our streets & the market came alive with laughter, creativity, and community spirit as families & students gathered to enjoy a morning filled with festive fun. From imaginative costumes and trick-or-treating, it was truly spooktacular for all!
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Village of Utica and our amazing local businesses for their incredible support. Your generosity, participation, and community pride made this celebration possible.
Events like this remind us how fortunate we are to live in a community that values connection, creativity, and togetherness. We can’t wait to see what next year’s celebration brings! --- Mrs. Alvarado

Kindergarten
Kindergarten has been busy learning all about Thanksgiving! We recently finished our classroom discussions about the holiday and enjoyed learning how families celebrate in different ways. Students created their own Thanksgiving books and made a turkey project that they were very proud to share. As we reflect on this special time of year, we are so very thankful for all of our wonderful families and the support you bring to our classroom community. --- Mrs. Kummer & Ms. Voss
Second Grade
2nd grade has recently started their Geography unit in Social Studies. So far they have learned about different types of maps, how to use a compass rose and key on a map to find important places and landforms, we have learned about the 5 major oceans, and began to dive deep into the 7 continents. We got the pleasure of learning from our own Ms. Jen, who has traveled to 5 of the 7 continents. She came in and showed us pictures and shared about the different cultures she experienced and stories of her time in the different continents. 2nd grade is eager to continue learning about our world. ---Mrs. Hill & Mrs. Hollingsworth
Fourth Grade
4K recently celebrated the 67th day of school with a day full of 6-7 activities! Students have also rocked the beginning of their decimal unit, and began research for informational writing! --Mrs. Kinzer
