Snow Emergency Information
February 25, 2026
Dear Families and Staff of Plymouth Public Schools,
I hope this message finds you safe and supported.
As our community continues to recover from what has been one of the most significant winter storms in decades, Plymouth Public Schools will remain closed through the remainder of this week. While we all look forward to returning to normal routines, our primary objective in situations like this is, and will always be, safety.
Please know that these decisions are never made in isolation. The School Department remains in constant communication with Town officials, including the Emergency Operations Center, Police, Fire, the Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), which has been brought in to assist the Town in coordinating response and recovery efforts. Together, we are assessing conditions in real time and making coordinated decisions based on the full scope of impact across Plymouth.
At this time, many of our school buildings are still without power. Road conditions remain vulnerable, with downed trees and wires, heavy snowbanks limiting visibility and access, and some areas still impassable. We are also addressing fire suppression concerns, removing snow loads from vulnerable roofs, and coordinating with heavy equipment contractors to assist with large-scale snow removal at our buildings.
In addition, Plymouth North High School continues to serve as a Red Cross Emergency Shelter and is currently supporting dozens of displaced families and individuals in need of warmth and stability. This alone is a powerful reminder of the severity of this storm’s impact.
While some members of our community may not be experiencing these challenges directly, there are still many families and staff facing very difficult (and in some cases dire) conditions. Our responsibility is to make decisions that reflect the broader reality across our entire town.
In the coming days, our work is focused on strengthening safety across all facilities and roadways. We are conducting building-by-building assessments to ensure the functionality of heat and electricity, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, transportation depots, and snow removal status for parking lots, sidewalks, entrances, and bus lanes.
Transportation will remain a central focus as we move toward the weekend. We are continuing to work closely with DPW to assess street conditions and ensure that bus routes and bus stops are safe and accessible. The safe and reliable transportation of our students is essential to any reopening plan, and allowing additional time to improve roadway conditions strengthens our ability to do so responsibly.
We also encourage families and staff to stay informed through the Town’s official storm recovery updates. The Town of Plymouth is providing ongoing information about road conditions, power restoration efforts, available services, and community resources. You can access the latest updates here: https://www.plymouth-ma.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/501. This resource will be updated regularly as response and recovery efforts continue.
For the past 26 years, I have had the pleasure of calling Plymouth home, and I have witnessed firsthand the strength and compassion of this community, both as a resident and as Superintendent. Plymouth is a resilient community. Every day, we see neighbors helping neighbors and staff stepping up in extraordinary ways. In moments like this, I encourage everyone to continue reaching out and supporting one another however possible.
Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and support of our schools and one another during this challenging time. We will continue to keep you informed as progress continues.
Sincerely,
Chris Campbell
