FBLA proudly celebrated FBLA Week this week! Members hosted a chapter breakfast and worked alongside the entire school to hold a successful food drive supporting the Food Bank of the Rockies and Prader-Willi Syndrome organizations.

Thank you to Central Plains Equipment for presenting the Akron football team with a RedZone check to benefit the Akron athletics department and for supporting our athletes!

On Tuesday, members of our GT students attended the Ultimate Summit at NJC, where they participated in engaging academic activities centered around space.

Mrs. Herder and six students from the Akron High School Student Council attended a BOCES Youth Convening as part of the Connected Futures Grant. Prior to the convening, each student gathered responses from a diverse group of peers. During the convening they then analyzed and discussed the data they collected. Students collaborated with peers from surrounding districts to share activities and ideas focused on promoting inclusion and belonging for all high school students. As a result of these discussions, the Akron students developed a rough draft of an initiative that will be further refined and presented to Akron administration, staff, and students.

Four middle school students represented their school at the Regional Spelling Bee in Brush on Wednesday. Students pictured are Kolton Schumacker, Maddox Reid, Taylor Cottman, and Abigail Ewell.

History was made yesterday as these seven individuals competed in the Conduct of Chapter Meeting Contest. The team is responsible for delivering opening ceremonies, conducting a proper business meeting on the fly, and closing out the meeting. This is done in 13 minutes or less.

This is a relatively new contest to us in Colorado and this is the first group in the last five years to take on the challenge.

Although the day didn’t turn out as we had hoped, we are still so proud of these tenacious Freshmen:

On Monday, our middle school wrestlers traveled to Holyoke for a wrestling tournament. The team competed aggressively on the mat and worked hard to earn pins throughout the day.

Last Thursday, Briggsdale traveled to Akron for an exciting night of basketball. Both teams brought energy to the court, giving fans a competitive matchup throughout the evening.

On Friday, the Rams hit the road to Ovid to take on the SedgeCo Cougars. The teams battled hard in every contest, with strong defensive play and determined effort from start to finish.

The Rams will return home this Friday to host Byers, with games beginning at 3:00 p.m. On Saturday, the team will travel to Haxtun for another full slate of games starting at 1:00 p.m.

Last weekend, the Rams competed in the Iron Will Invite in Greeley, showcasing strong performances across the lineup. On Tuesday night, the team faced Brush in a duel and came away with a dominant victory on the mat. The night was extra special for senior Mason Porteus, who captured his 100th career win.

Check out last week’s Pom performance! Our talented Pom members—Aubree Bulik, Shirley West, Alia Winter, and Chloe Farmer—took the stage with energy and precision. These dancers continue to showcase their dedication, teamwork, and love for performing at every practice and performance!

Coach Pickens has been named 1A Baseball Coach of the Year by the Colorado Dugout Club Coaches Association. Honored at the association’s annual Hall of Fame ceremony, Coach Pickens helped lead the 2025 Akron Rams to their first baseball state championship in program history.
