Message from Mr. Jordan Message from Mr. Jordan

Between connecting with families during "Meet the Teacher" night and seeing picture-day smiles, Hastings has been full of energy as students settle into their daily routines. Best of all, our staff has been inspired seeing them live into the traits of our Profile of an Engaged Learner.

Looking ahead, our momentum keeps growing, and excitement is building for our upcoming 6th Grade camp! Thank you for your ongoing partnership as we step into another great week together.

We are proud to recognize Miss Hannah, our Cafeteria Monitor, for exhibiting the Creative characteristic!

Miss Hannah engages our students both inside and outside of the cafeteria through daily music during lunch, fun riddles, inspiring quotes, and even pictures of her cat! She makes a point to connect with every student, whether it’s by discussing the daily riddle, talking about their interests, or sharing some of her own.

Outside of the cafeteria, Miss Hannah started Craft Club during the 2025–2026 school year, and it quickly became one of our most well-attended clubs!

Thank you, Miss Hannah, for bringing your immense creativity and positive energy to our school community!

Phones

We have found an increase in calls not successfully going through due to the calls being screened. Our assumption is that it’s due to the new iPhone update. If an adult is calling from the building, we commit to leaving a voicemail. To help with calls successfully going through, please save our main phone number (614) 487-5100 into your phone. Our hope is that that will help!

Transportation Request

At the beginning of every new school year we request that no students ride home with other students. The reason we are asking is this time is for the route drivers to become acquainted with their assigned students while also creating seating charts that is a requirement through ODEW.

As of Monday, August 31, 2026 we are asking that no students are not permitted to ride on any other bus than their assigned bus, until after October 9, 2026. UNLESS it is a sitter/care provider circumstance and has been authorized through Transportation and communicated to the school.

The Hope Garden

The Upper Arlington Education Foundation (UA+Ed) is honored to partner with the Short family and Upper Arlington Schools to create a Hope Garden to be located at Upper Arlington High School. The space will be a peaceful and welcoming place for students, families, staff, and community members to pause in times of heartache, seek hope in the midst of fear, and find joy in times of remembrance. Read more and support this meaningful space HERE.

AM Arrival / PM Dismissal

  • If you are dropping off/picking up your student, please make sure they are ready to exit the vehicle.
  • In order to keep our car line moving, we also ask that you pull all the way up, if there is space to do so, before letting your child(ren) out of the car.
  • Please do not park in the staff parking lot or use Hastings Lane to drop off or pick up students. We kindly ask that you use the stop, drop and go line in the parking lot loop.
  • Please do not turn left out of the parking lot onto Hastings Lane when dropping off / picking up.
  • Please do not ride your bike or walk through the parking lot. The parking lot is very busy at drop off/pick up times. We want to keep our bikers and walkers safe! When you get to the school sidewalks, we kindly ask that you walk your bike to keep our walkers safe.
  • At all times, during arrival and dismissal, please use the sidewalks and crosswalks.
  • Students are not permitted to cross Hastings Lane outside of the crosswalk.
  • It is our district’s policy that dogs are not permitted on school grounds. If you are walking and have your dog, please keep your dog leashed and then allow your child to walk by himself/herself, if on school property.

Thank you again for helping to keep all of our students safe.

Hello 6th-grade families!

Week 2 is in the books! It was so nice to meet some of you at Meet The Teacher Night on Tuesday.

I wanted to pass along a few helpful resources for the apps we use at HMS. Some of you may have seen this Tech Presentation at our Mission Transition Night last spring. If you did not have a chance to attend, please look it over, as it contains a lot of helpful information for how parents/guardians can register for different accounts.

A quick note about the Canvas Parent Observer account: it will ask you for a “pairing code”; this is something your child will have in their account. Following the instructions listed in the Tech Presentation will help walk you through this process.

If you have any trouble getting registered or have additional tech questions, please reach out to familytechhelp@uaschools.org for assistance.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Kind Regards,

Carla Langford

Dear 8th Grade Parents/Guardians,

Our district is committed to ensuring that every student feels welcomed, valued, supported and embraced, and has the resources they need to be an engaged and uniquely accomplished learner who is prepared to serve, lead and succeed. To achieve these goals, students must feel physically and emotionally safe and have a sense of belonging in their school.

Ohio law (SB 288 / Erin’s Law) requires schools to provide developmentally appropriate instruction in dating violence prevention education and sexual violence prevention education. Students will be provided with instruction in recognizing dating violence warning signs and characteristics of healthy relationships, including the dangers of sextortion. You are invited to review the instructional materials at these links: Healthy Relationships Slideshow, Sextortion Slideshow , Lesson 1 Activities, Lesson 2 Activities. Additional information can be found at this site: Child Sexual Abuse, Dating Violence and Sexual Violence Prevention | Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

Students will receive the content in two lessons delivered by their School Counselor and Safety Resource Officer. Lessons will be provided during regularly scheduled in Language Arts classes beginning September 10, 2026.

You have the right to excuse your child from these lessons and may do so by completing this opt out by September 7, 2026. Students not participating in the lessons will be provided with an alternative environment and activity for this portion of the day.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s School Counselor for assistance. Thank you for partnering with us to support our students’ safety, health, and success.

Sincerely,

Tina Farbizo

Football Friday night guidelines for elementary and middle school families

If you plan to cheer on your Golden Bears this season, please keep in mind the following important rules. These expectations will be enforced throughout the football season in order to create a positive and enjoyable environment for Golden Bear fans of all ages.

  • If you choose to participate in a tailgate, please be aware that state law prohibits the possession or use of alcohol or controlled substances on school grounds or at school-related events. This includes any school parking lot.
  • If you have a young fan in your family, please remember that elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by a supervising adult throughout the entirety of the game. These students should sit in the stands during the game unless they are using the restroom or waiting in line at the concession stands. There should be no loitering at the concession stands, restrooms or under the bleachers.
  • Footballs and other sports equipment are not allowed at the game and will be confiscated. Students should not throw these or other items, spit or touch each other.
  • Elementary and middle school students are not permitted on the field after the game until the visiting team is off the turf and the alma mater has concluded.
  • Students must leave the stadium within 20 minutes of the conclusion of the game.
  • Finally, the turf practice fields will be off limits during and after varsity football home games.

If a student is not able to meet these expectations during the game, a parent or guardian will be contacted to pick up the student immediately.

Parent Information Night: Elementary Gifted Services

Elementary parents are invited to attend one of two Elementary Gifted Services Parent Information Nights in the coming weeks. These sessions are designed to help answer questions regarding gifted services, including gifted qualifications, gifted clusters and Written Education Plans (WEPs). The same presentation will be provided on both nights, so please select the date that works best for you. **Please note the corrected date for our second presentation.**

  • Monday, August 31: Jones Middle School auditorium, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

  • Thursday, September 3: Hastings Middle School auditorium, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Hope Garden dedication ceremony set for September 4

Join the Upper Arlington Education Foundation, Upper Arlington Schools and the Short family for the dedication of the Hope Garden at Upper Arlington High School on Friday, September 4, at 5:30 p.m.

The brief ceremony will be held at the garden, located near the south entrance of Marv Moorehead Memorial Stadium, between the high school building and the tennis courts. This space is a peaceful, welcoming space where students, families, staff and community members can pause in times of heartache, find hope in difficult moments and honor the memories of those they have lost.

Made possible through the generosity of donors to the Hope Garden Fund through the Upper Arlington Education Foundation, the garden honors the life of Sam Short and other Upper Arlington students who passed away during their time in our schools. Sam, the beloved son of Mike and Tori Short, was the first graduate of Upper Arlington High School's 100th class. His courageous spirit and enduring optimism inspired his family to create a place that not only celebrates his life but also provides comfort, hope and remembrance for members of the Upper Arlington Schools community who have experienced the loss of a student.
