Message From the Principal

Dear Parsons Families,

It was so wonderful to see all of our Pirates walking the halls on Wednesday night. We loved the hugs, smiles, high fives, and excitement. Back to School brings a wide range of emotions from both students and parents. As a mom of a serial "back to school stomachache" kid, I completely understand that we will be greeted with many different emotions the first week of school. Just remember that is completely normal. Your child will be extra tired (and extra hungry) this first week back. Bedtime and meal time routines are important. As educators, we are your partners in this adventure. Please keep the communication lines open as we are always eager to work with you to ensure this is a fabulous year for your child!

Sincerely,

Sarah Aherne

Open House

Thank you so much to everyone for attending our Open House! We loved seeing both old and new faces after a summer apart! There was great energy, lots of smiles, and positive Parsons pride throughout the building! We appreciate all of the donations that were brought in for classrooms. Thank you to families who stopped by our amazing PTO table, Cub Scouts, and Champions.

A big thank you also to the kindergarten families who joined us for Popsicles with the Principal before Open House. After several cancellations, it was wonderful to meet all of you again and welcome our newest learners with a sweet treat!

Arrival and Dismissal

We have a wonderful crossing guard, Ms Tammy, and a fabulous parent, Ms Brandy, who help us keep our students safe in the parking lot. Please ensure that when you are dropping off or picking up in the driveline that you pull all the way up. Please do not block the crosswalk. If you are not in the driveline, you must park. If you are parking in the front lot or the side lot, please walk your child up to school or walk up to the front doors to collect your child. We don’t want a child hit from running in the parking lot. It is one way. Do not enter from Fryer Road.

We encourage kindergarten families to utilize the gravel parking lot on Fryer Road or the church parking lot across the street. Children will only be released to parents or guardians after the teacher has made contact.

As much as we love your dogs, please do not bring your dog (unless it’s a service animal) to arrival and dismissal. We do not want a child to be bitten. Also, we have several students who are allergic to dogs and have epipens in the office. Help us keep kids safe!

Doors will open at 8:33 am! There will not be supervision before this time.

Arrival Areas:

Mrs Przepiora's Kindergarteners enter near Fryer Street

Mrs Bannon's Kindergartners, Mrs. Pendergast's Kindergartners, and all other students enter through the main front doors.

Dismissal Areas:

Kindergarten-Front Doors by Mrs. Przepiora’s room near Fryer Street

First Grade-Fifth Grade-Main Front Doors

Buses-Bus loop by First Grade Doors

Kindergarten First Day of School

Our kindergarten students will begin their first day of school on Tuesday, September 5th with a 9:15 start time. This will allow our youngest learners to enter without the excitement of everyone else. We are asking that all students come with a parent or guardian if possible. If your child is riding the bus, we will welcome them at the regular time. The teachers will hold an important meeting with all parents and they will have a scavenger hunt. The kindergarten teachers will tell more in their welcome letter.

Visitors in the Building

Although we love to have visitors, we remain committed to your children’s safety. Kindergarten parents are allowed to walk their children to class on the first day of school. All other parents, grades 1-5, must hug their child at the door and let them walk in by themselves. We do not allow visitors or parents in the building without prior permission.

School Safety

All doors are locked during the school day. If you come to school, you will be buzzed into the foyer area and office and then asked to show identification before your child is released. All visitors/volunteers in the building must report and sign in at the office. Visitors must wear a badge in the school building. All volunteers in the classroom and for field trips must have a background check on file each year.

Parsons Positive Behavior Model

Parsons uses the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support framework to promote a range of positive behavior by defining expectations for conduct. During the first couple weeks of school, teachers will be explicitly teaching behavior expectations for all areas of the school. Please check out our Parent Flyer for more information.

Free School Breakfast and Lunch

Governor Whitmer has made school breakfast and lunch free again this school year. You will receive free and reduced lunch forms the first day of school. Even though meals are free we encourage all families to fill out the forms. The completion of the application by our families helps us receive federal funding. Lunch menus will be available online, in the weekly update, and on our Facebook pages.

Lunch is 11:45-1:00. Specific grade level lunch times will be sent out next week.

Water Only in the Classroom

Water is great for the growing brain! We encourage all students to bring a water bottle everyday for school. We have water filling stations in the hallways and sinks in the classroom.

While we know our students love Prime, juice, milk, pop, Starbucks, etc, we ask that you help us with ensuring that only water is available in the classroom. Students are welcome to have these other drinks at lunch but they will not be allowed in the classroom.

Technology

In the first week of school, students will receive a paper copy of their technology agreement. The technology agreement needs to be filled out with the student’s name, ID number, grade level, school, and then signed by a parent or guardian before receiving any district technology. This is a change from previous years. Once the students turn in their agreement to their teacher, their teacher will issue them an iPad (K-1) or Chromebook (2-5), case, and charger. Students will not receive technology unless the agreement is signed and returned.
