MESSAGE FROM DEARBORN HEIGHTS LIBRARY:

Its Back to School Season! We know that right now many families are making New (School) Year resolutions focused on building literacy, increasing test scores, and creating better study habits. The Dearborn Heights Library has the tools to help families achieve those goals.

We are having an Open House at the Caroline Kennedy Library on Saturday, September 14th. There will be lots of food, fun, crafts, and information about library resources. We ask that you please distribute these flyers to your students to help get the word out.

As always, the Open House and all activities included are FREE. You do not need to be a Dearborn Heights resident to attend. The more the merrier!

ASSESSMENTS HAPPENING IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS:

We are now starting our Reading and Math assessments through iReady for the beginning of the

school year. This will help teachers in providing lessons focused on your child’s level and abilities.

We are also assessing your child in reading. They will be tested using the BAS(Benchmark

Assessment System), which allows teachers to see where students are starting off in their reading for

the school year. Reading bags will be provided to all students with appropriate level readers to be reading everyday.(BAS will be tested in the Winter for Kindergarten students)

STUDENTS WHO ARE BRINGING TECHNOLOGY WITH THEM TO SCHOOL PLEASE REMEMBER:

All hardware capable of video or recording are prohibited during school hours due to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) Law. e.g. cell phones, technology watches, ipads; Students who have these devices will be asked to place them in their lockers inside their backpacks.

PLEASE REMIND YOUR CHILD REGARDING--Restroom Etiquette at Hillcrest:

This was a major problem last week and its a reminder for ALL Young 5's/Kindergarten-Fourth Grade students!

Hello Husky Family,

We at Hillcrest have been working hard to help our huskies grow into responsible and respectful individuals. I will be visiting your child's class at the beginning of the school year, regarding how to utilize all areas of the building as it is not one individual utilizing the building but all staff and students as a whole. We kindly ask that you speak with your child regarding proper restroom etiquette. In order to continue maintaining restrooms in a sanitary condition, we would appreciate your support with this matter. As we get closer to colder temperatures let's work together to keep germs away. There will be consequences for those who intentionally misuse their restroom privileges. Thank you!--Principal Saad

Medication information from Nurse Mrs. Berry:

"Welcome back Ravens!

As we get back into the swing of things, I want to remind parents that students who need medications during school hours must have documentation on file that is signed by a physician. You can find all health related documents on the CSD website and I have linked some of them below. If your child has a health condition that I need to be aware of, please email me so I can update MiStar with the pertinent information. Let's have a safe and healthy school year!
