Kinnaman Community Newsletter
September 2024
Welcome Back to the 2024-2025 School Year!
A message from our principal...
Dear Kinnaman School Community,
We are thrilled to announce an exciting series of publishing dates dedicated to celebrating the incredible writing achievements of our young authors here at Kinnaman Elementary School! Classroom teachers may plan special events to highlight the creativity and hard work of our students across all grades, and we warmly invite you to join us in honoring their literary accomplishments.
Publishing Dates:
November 1
April 4
June 6
Publishing dates will feature a selection of student writings, including stories, poems, and essays, presented in a variety of formats such as printed booklets, digital presentations, and more. No matter the format, you can expect to receive a digital or printed piece of writing from your child after a Schoolwide Publishing Day, presenting a wonderful opportunity to see the amazing work our students have produced and to support their literary growth.
We look forward to celebrating our students’ literary talents with you throughout the year. Thank you for your continued support of our young authors and their journeys in writing!
Warm regards,
Dr. Hudson
Principal

Kinnaman is an early start elementary school.
- Arrival 7:30-7:45 a.m.
- Dismissal 2:20 p.m.
- Students should be picked up no later than 2:30 p.m. as there is no supervision for students after that time.
Students who arrive after 7:45 a.m.
Students will check-in at the office and then go to class.
Entry is only permitted through the front, main entrance doors after 7:45 a.m.
For information about our current arrival and dismissal routes, check out the information below.
If you are changing dismissal plans, please call the office prior to 1:00 p.m. Please do not message your child's teacher directly.
Arrival and Dismissal
Doors open at 7:30 each morning. Students in grades 1-5 that arrive between 7:30-7:45 will have three options to choose from. The can go to the cafeteria to receive a free breakfast, they can head to the gym, or they can choose to participate in a structured activity under the covered area out back. All three areas will have supervision until the morning bell at 7:45. Students will then collect all belongings and head to their classroom where they will be greeted by their teacher at 7:45.
Kindergarten students that arrive between 7:30-7:45 will have two choices. They can have free breakfast in the cafeteria or head to directly to the library where they will have literacy instruction from our academic coach, Mrs. Scribner.
Please take note of the pick up and drop off locations. The north end of the building is where students who are not riding the school bus will be dropped off and picked up. The parking area in the front of our school building is strictly reserved for school buses.
Return to School – Plan Your Trip
Beaverton Safe Routes to School invites you to explore your options for safe travel to school on our website. We have provided suggested routes for walking and rolling, as well as safety tips for all modes of travel. Additionally, you will find arrival and departure maps for every elementary and middle school. These maps indicate how students who travel by foot, bus and car should arrive and leave our school campuses. The safety of our students depends on you! To learn more visit www.beaverton.k12.or.us/safe-routes
Walkers/Bikers
There are two crossing guards to assist with safe arrival and dismissal. One crossing guard is located at the intersection of Kinnaman and 193rd Ave. and the other crossing guard is located on the corner of 193rd and SW Westword St.
We recommend that students secure bicycles to the bicycle rack with a lock.
Please enter the school through the doors at the main entrance.
Car Pick Up and Drop Off
Drivers should alternate entry into the parking lot one car at a time from each lane. In order to keep traffic flow moving, drivers are asked to remain in vehicles.
Students who do not ride the bus, walk, or ride their bike are dropped off and picked up in the parking lot on the north side of the school. If it is after 8:30 a.m., students should be dropped off at the main entrance in the front of the school.
Bus Transportation
Our Transportation Department will be notifying families about bus routes. Families can learn more on our transportation webpage.
Kinnaman Student Directory
Would you like to have your child added to the Kinnaman Student Directory? Here is the link for the new Kinnaman Student Directory Google form for families who would like to be in the 2024-2025 student directory. This is a great ways for families to be able to connect outside of school hours 😊
Nutrition Services
Keypad Practice Sheets can be used to help your child practice how they will type their student ID number into the Keypad after they get their lunch. We are hoping students can learn their numbers quickly and do not have to rely on the ID Cards for too long. Help your child practice at home. If you do not know your child's ID number, you can find it under their account information in ParentVue 🙂
New Visitor/Volunteer Policy
If you haven’t done so already, please reapply to be a volunteer or visitor in the Beaverton School District. We’re implementing a new volunteer management system and need time to process and complete the criminal background checks for all applicants.
Please note, that to enter the school building during regular student hours, you must have completed the background check. It takes about 10 days to process so please plan ahead.
Start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
