Lebanon School District
Monthly Superintendent Update
August/September 2025
This monthly communication is intended for our Lebanon School District families.
Step Inside Where We Are...
Inspiring Minds, Enriching Lives, and Shaping Futures
Message from the Superintendent of Schools
Dear Cedar Families,
Welcome to the start of a new school year! The first day of school is always a time of excitement, possibility, and fresh beginnings. As we open our doors for the 2025–2026 school year, we remain guided by our district mission: Inspiring Minds, Enriching Lives, Shaping Futures.
This year, we remain focused on four key priorities that will help us achieve that mission:
Student Attendance – encouraging consistent attendance so every learner has the opportunity to thrive each day.
High Expectations – fostering a culture of excellence in our classrooms, activities, and relationships.
Student Engagement – creating meaningful learning experiences that connect with our students’ interests and aspirations.
-
Student Achievement – ensuring every learner is challenged and supported to grow academically.
We know that success is a partnership between schools, families, and our community. Together, we can ensure that every student has the tools, opportunities, and encouragement needed to reach their full potential.
On behalf of all our educators and staff, I wish your family a joyful and successful start to the school year. Please know we are here to support every learner, every step of the way.
With Pride,
Nicole L. Malinoski, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

21st Century Program - Enrolling Students Soon!
On behalf of the 21st Century Staff, welcome back to school! The 21st Century program has offered before and after-school programming for nearly 20 years, and this year is no different!
Students in grades 1st -12th are eligible to attend programming -- we operate Monday - Thursday throughout the year, at each one of our school buildings! Our program offers hands-on STEM activities, arts, crafts, outdoor activities, tutoring, homework help and more! Programs at Harding and Northwest will also provide opportunities for students to attend activities sponsored by the PA Dutch Council ScoutReach program! 21st Century is always free and will begin enrolling soon.
This year, 21st Century plans to begin on Monday, October 6th. Please reach out to your child's school for more information, or to request an enrollment form. We look forward to seeing your child in the out-of-school time!
Senior Citizen Cedar Passes
Senior Citizen Cedar Passes are available to district residents aged 65 and older. Cedar Passes provide free admission to select district sponsored events, including home athletic games and concerts.
To receive a Cedar Pass, bring proof of age and residence to the district office at 1000 South Eighth Street and enter through door G. Ask for Kathryn.
We’re Excited to Kick Off the Portrait of a Cedar this School Year!
This initiative is designed to help our students grow into well-rounded individuals who are confident, capable, and prepared for life after graduation, whether that means college, a career, or making a positive impact in the community.
Through Portrait of a Cedar, we’re focusing on seven Cedar Competencies (skills) we want every Cedar to develop:
Personally Responsible
Empathetic
Adaptable
Critical Thinker
Communicator
Creative
Leader
Each month, teachers will highlight the skill of the month in the classroom through lessons and activities that connect learning to the real world.
To keep you in the loop, the district will share the Cedar Competency of the month and simple ideas for how you can support at home.
Cedar Competency for September: Personally Responsible
💬 Talk About Responsibility
- Have conversations about what it means to be responsible at home, in school, and in the community.
- Share examples from your own life where being responsible made a difference.
📅 Set Routines and Expectations
- Create regular routines for studying, chores, and bedtime.
- Encourage your scholar to follow through on their commitments and praise them when they do!
✅ Let Them Own Tasks
- Give age-appropriate responsibilities like packing their backpack, making their lunch, or helping with a sibling.
- Resist the urge to do everything for them, let them try, make mistakes, and learn.
💡 Model Good Behavior
- Show what it looks like to follow through on promises, admit mistakes, and treat others with respect.
- Let them see you being responsible in your job, community, or daily tasks.
📖 Reflect Together, Ask questions like:
- “What’s something you’re proud of doing on your own this week?
- “What could you do differently next time if something didn’t go well?”
❤️ Encourage Honesty and Integrity
- Emphasize the importance of doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
- Celebrate acts of honesty and kindness - no matter how small.
Together, we’ll help our students grow into confident, capable, and caring young people, continuing Lebanon’s strong tradition of building an UNBREAKABLE legacy!
Thank you for being our partners in this journey!
Lebanon Intermediate School Renovation Update
The entire project will not be completed until the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year when fifth grade students will join the school.
Athletic Facility Upgrades
This summer has brought exciting upgrades to Lebanon School District’s athletic facilities. New stadium lights and a scoreboard were installed at the baseball field to enhance both player and fan experiences.
At the track complex, the installation of new safety fencing and netting for track and field throwing events, as well as a new scoreboard were added.
Perhaps most excitingly, the district is proud to announce the official opening of the new high school turf field. This multi-purpose field will host field hockey, soccer, and softball, providing a top-tier playing surface for our student-athletes.
State-of-the-art Hudl cameras, enabling fans to watch live game coverage from home or on the go will be installed at the baseball, softball, and track complexes.
