Westside Coin Drive

Westside Dance Marathon is a Student led organization at Westside High School that raises money for Children's Hospital Omaha. This year the goal is $50,000 and all funds will be donated to the 3D Visualization Lab for patients to receive personalized superhero action figures to celebrate their strength and resilience!

The coin drive will run Monday, February 23rd to Friday, February 27th. Students can bring change and cash throughout the week and drop it in the ziplock bag provided to each teacher. The winning class will win donuts provided by Dance Marathon. Do it for kids who can’t!

BIST Bytes

Keep language short and clear

Why this matters
When children are upset, their thinking brain is less available. Long explanations, questions, or lectures can feel overwhelming and may escalate behavior. Short, clear language is easier to process and follow.

Examples by situation

  • Big emotions
“You’re really angry. Hands stay safe.”

  • Transitions
“You’re disappointed. It’s time to clean up.”

  • Schoolwork
“This feels hard. We start with the first problem.”

  • Sibling conflict
“You’re frustrated. Use words, not pushing.”

Literacy Lowdown

Read together every day. Take turns reading pages or sentences, and don’t be afraid to read aloud to your child. Hearing fluent reading builds understanding and takes pressure off when reading feels hard.

Math Minute

Make Math Part of Everyday Life

Count toys, sort laundry, measure ingredients, compare prices, or calculate time until an event.

The Word of the Week

Next week's word is: Weight

Definition: weight is how heavy an object is

Sentence: We need to know the weight of this box before we can mail it.

Snack Reminders

Daily Snack Time:

All classes at Westbrook have a snack time. Students may bring a snack from home, but many classrooms continue working during this time. Because of this, please avoid snacks that are messy or get seasoning on fingers.
Please do NOT send: Cheetos, Doritos, Takis, heavily seasoned pretzels, candy, or similar snacks.

We encourage simple, healthy snacks that give students good energy for learning.

Snacks for Class Celebrations (Birthdays, Parties, etc.):
If your child is bringing a snack to share with the whole class, it must be something from the school’s “Safer and Healthier Foods List.” This helps keep all students safe and makes it easier to share items fairly.

This list only applies to food shared with classmates. It does not apply to snacks you send for your own child to eat during their individual snack time.

Westside Middle School Show Choir Camp

There are scholarships available for Westbrook students. Please contact Mrs. Morris for more information!
