Dear McKinley Families
It’s hard to believe we only have nine days left in the school year! With so many exciting events and celebrations ahead, I know these final days will fly by.
¡Cuesta creer que solo nos quedan nueve días para terminar el año escolar! Con tantos eventos y celebraciones por venir, estoy segura de que estos días pasarán volando.
Over the weekend, I shared the announcement introducing our new vice principal, Ms. Dania Zalat. She even joined us at the Farmers Market on Sunday and had the chance to meet a few of our families. I am truly looking forward to working alongside her next year. While a break sounds wonderful, I am already eager to begin planning with her! If you would like to meet Ms. Dania, please consider joining us at the Board Meeting on June 10.

Serving on SSC or ELAC is a meaningful way to be involved in your child’s education and make your voice heard in our school community. Whether you are passionate about supporting English learners or contributing to the broader direction of McKinley, we need your perspective.

BCE is an essential partner to McKinley and all Burlingame schools. Thanks to BCE, our students benefit from programs like music, PE, and more opportunities that wouldn’t exist without their support.
Right now, BCE is working to close a $250,000 gap by the end of June to meet their goal of granting $2.8 million to BSD for next school year. This funding supports 19 teaching positions across the district, including the ones that bring music and PE to McKinley.

Get involved with BCE!/¡Involúcrate con BCE!
BCE is an important partner to our school and the entire Burlingame school district. BCE supports programs that make our school an amazing place. I've heard so many parents mention our incredible music program (and amazing student performances!), and the importance of their kids having access to PE. These opportunities feel like a natural part of education, so it's hard to imagine that they wouldn't exist if BCE (and YOU) didn't fund 19 extra teachers across the district, including music and PE.

BCE is currently working hard to close a $250k gap between now and the end of June in order to hit this year’s goal of granting $2.8m to BSD for the 2025-26 school year. Hitting the goal would allow BSD to continue to staff the 19 teaching positions currently paid for by the BCE grant.

BCE has to fundraise because state and local funds simply do not cover what it takes to provide a quality education to students in Burlingame. Costs go up every year—from the electric bill to a teacher's salary. Normally, the state gives school districts a bit more each year to cover those costs, but due to state budget deficits, our school district isn't getting a bump in funding that will match the actual increase in costs. BCE funds help our schools weather state budget shortfalls and keep funding levels where we need them to be. This video does a great job explaining why we ask families, local businesses and community members to support BCE.
