Mighty Mentors Mighty Mentors

Our Akron Rams kept the excitement crawling into another amazing week!

After creating their bug jugs and designing their own insects last week, our preschoolers and their 8th grade Mighty Mentors took their learning outdoors for a real-life bug hunt! Armed with their creations, students explored, observed, and searched for insects of all kinds.

The kids soaked up the sunshine, chased anything with more than four legs, and had an absolute blast! Laughter and curiosity filled the air as our youngest Rams discovered the wonders of nature, while our older mentors encouraged exploration and shared in the excitement.

It’s incredible to see learning come to life through hands-on experiences, teamwork, and joyful moments like these. Mighty Mentor Time continues to build connections, confidence, and unforgettable memories each week.

Freshman Ladies Show Off Their Research at State Science Fair Freshman Ladies Show Off Their Research at State Science Fair

This past week, Ana Diego, Tania Gacia, and Adalyn Saffer proudly represented Akron High School at the Colorado Science and Engineering Fair (CSEF) with their project, “How Loud Is Too Loud?: The Relationship Between Decibel Level and Cognitive Functioning.”

The competition was fierce, featuring students from across Colorado, representing schools of all sizes—including public, private, and homeschool programs. The girls rose to the challenge and represented Akron with professionalism and pride.

While at Colorado State University, they also had the opportunity to tour the Exercise Science Lab, where they explored ongoing research and gained valuable insight into potential college majors and future research opportunities. This experience provided a meaningful glimpse into what scientific work can look like beyond high school.

After more than four hours of judging and interviews, the team narrowly missed earning a podium spot in their category. Despite this, the experience proved to be incredibly valuable, giving them new ideas and direction for strengthening future projects.

To celebrate their hard work and dedication, the girls were treated to Dairy Queen after the awards ceremony—a well-earned reward for their commitment and effort throughout the entire process.

This was a rewarding and educational experience, and these young women should be proud of the work they accomplished. If you see them around, be sure to congratulate them on an outstanding job and their excellence in research this year.

Baseball Baseball

Last Saturday, the JV team hosted Prairie. The team put together solid at-bats and applied pressure on the bases, but ultimately fell just short in a 13–11 loss.

On Wednesday, the varsity squad delivered a strong performance, edging out the Merino Rams 6–5. The game was a tight contest throughout, with timely hitting and key defensive plays making the difference. The Rams stayed composed late, holding off Merino to secure the win.

The team returns to action this Saturday as they travel to Haxtun for a doubleheader. It will be a great opportunity to build momentum and continue improving as the season progresses.
