Does the saying "April showers bring May flowers!" apply to snow flurries and cold temperatures in Lempster? When we return from break I am hoping for actual springtime weather as we enter the final six week stretch of the school year. This past Wednesday, our spring photos were taken and 8th Graders were photographed in their robes, caps and gowns. This is the first sign that we have little time left in this school year!
The second, third and fourth grade classes will be spending today attending The Magic School Bus in Concord. This is nice send off for them before our week off! In addition to other field trips and wrapping up our curriculum, we will start Testing Tuesdays when we return from break. This will continue until the final week in June. Parents of 3rd-8th grade students received a letter and text notification regarding the NH SAS testing that will begin on Tuesday, May 4th and wrap up on Tuesday, May 26th. The idea of spending only half Tuesday, weekly for NH SAS and scheduling NWEA for K-8 for the two Tuesdays in June was welcomed by staff!
Mr. McNicholas and Ms. Bailey are in the planning stages of the annual Memorial Day Concert, set to take place the morning of May 22nd! As more details get put into place we will let you know! This week leading up to break has been an exciting one for students as they have engaged in the PTO Penny Wars! In preparing for the retirement of the penny, the rules this year include Nickels as positive points for each classes' jar. Sticking with the traditional rules, all other coins and bills count as negative points. Prizes will be awarded for the most points AND the most money! We will find out who our winners are once we return from break!
In other community news, the Goshen School Board chose Lempster Community School to be it's anchor school! We look forward to welcoming even more Goshen students in the fall and are working to include a bus stop for them in our transportation route. Speaking of this...thank you those who have taken the time to answer our transportation survey! This is so important as we plan for next year! If you did not have a chance to provide input, please click here.
Kindergarten screening will be happening soon after our return from break. Please make sure that you see the flyer below for details and contact Mrs. MacIntyre in the main office if you do not yet have an appointment for your child. Additionally, we opened our preschool program last year to three year old students. In an effort to continue this, we are in the process of redesigning our preschool program to best meet the needs of our students and families. We will be releasing updates about our 2026-2027 program soon! Finally, please take time to take your children outside on our week off (weather permitting of course!) and enjoy the lull before the blackflies hatch! Illnesses are finally dwindling and everyone is looking forward to more sunshine. Enjoy April Vacation everyone!
Third Quarter Awards & Rewards
Last Friday, April 17th, students gathered in the gym for their final student recognition ceremony of the year. With spring NWEA having not yet taken place, middle school students were awarded for honor roll, high honor roll and perfect attendance. Elementary students were also awarded for being here every day of quarter three and a few special awards were given for positivity and improvement. Holding students to my attendance challenge, the 3rd grade won the pizza party for the best attendance over the entire third quarter. They beat the 8th graders by only about 1%! With our last NWEA test being administered at the beginning of June, students will be recognized for their year-end improvement at the beginning of the following school year! For a list of middle school honor and high honor roll students please click here!
Fourth Quarter Fun Fridays Are A Big Hit!
LCS students love friendly competition! Today was Hat Day, last Friday was Inside Out Day (apologies for the late message!) and our first Fourth Quarter Fun Friday theme was Sports Day! Students and teachers are dressing up and tallying how many students participate in each spirit day. Each week, the class with the largest percentage gets to hang out to week-long trophy (Simba The Wildcat Messenger) and gets a surprise dance party visit from Wisdom our Wildcat Mascot! Our first prize winner was the fourth grade, followed by fifth grade. After break the class who wore the most hats will have their turn!
From Ms. Magurk in the library...
Families of LCS! It’s that time of year again when all the students are asking me about the next book fair… Well, it's coming! The week of May 18th through the 22nd is the long-awaited Spring BOGO (Buy One Get One) Sale and we are so excited to see what books are coming our way. This is also a great opportunity to donate purchased books from the fair for the classroom and the whole school library with this deal. After vacation, in the next Newsletter, I will add how to make an ewallet for anyone who wants to create one for their student to be able to purchase books that week without having to bring money to school. The fair will be open every morning from 7:45-8:15, during the student’s library/media center days, Middle School can come during their community time, and everyday after school from 3:00-3:30. During these times, Mrs. Magurk or an adult will be here to help students pick out the perfect book for summer reading.
In other news, LCS students are asking when Freddy Meowcury, the therapy cat, is going to visit LCS again. After a year of hiatus and training, Freddy is ready to join us to visit and educate students about what a therapy animal’s role is in a school setting. A therapy animal's job is to provide comfort, emotional support, and affection to people in hospitals, schools, nursing homes, and disaster areas, often as part of a structured, goal-directed, animal-assisted intervention. These trained pets, with their handlers, help individuals manage anxiety, improve social skills, and enhance physical well-being. Freddy has visited LCS before for part of his training as he and Mrs. Magurk go for official certification this summer through PetPartners.
For more information, feel free to visit petpartners.org . When Freddy comes to visit, he will have been well groomed (washed and clipped) and will be on his training harness at all times. He has a safe spot for himself when he is on a “break” and a place to relieve himself where students do not have access. Students will be able to visit him only in the library so that there is one designated area for him and students who may have allergies can stay inside their classroom with another adult present. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Mrs. Magurk or Ms. Croteau. Thank you for your continued support!
