Weekly Update

Dear Elmore School Families,

I will keep this update rather brief. As you know I have been dealing with some challenging, health related, family circumstances that has taken me away from school several days over the past couple of weeks. I will be out one more day on Monday and then hofully things will be back to normal. Mrs. Bellavance has been holding down the fort along with some wonderful guest teachers . Please join me in extending gratitude to them if you have a chance.

During writing, students worked on writing first drafts of their personal narratives, This week the focus was on writing the middle of their story where the main events take place. They word on using temporal words, and expanding sentences by adding details in the form of adjectives and adverbs.

During phonics lessons, students have been working on targeted phonics rules they can apply to spelling (encoding) and reading (decoding) words. These skills include: spelling words with digraphs /sh/ and /ch/; adding suffixes to root words, open and closed syllables, and syllables with silent e. Due to our 4 day school week we will carry these over into next week.

During math, students have been practicing skills they have been learning about and reviewing skills such as addition and subtraction as the complete math puzzles and math centers.

School Photos will be taken first thing in the morning on Wednesday, October 15th. All students will get their photo taken for school records. If you wish to order photos, please sent payment along with the order form on or before Tuesday.

Also, Heather Hill has graciously offered to do school shirts again this year! If you would like to order a shirt, please complete the order form (also found in your Friday Folder) and follow instruction for payment on the form. Orders are due by October 18th.

You will find a ECO permission slip in your child's Friday Folder. We will be doing some preliminary ECO activities next week to prepare for our year of Education Children Outdoors (ECO). Our first official ECO lesson will be Friday, October 17th. Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering.

As the honored teacher at the Elmore School I have a passion for helping students be at their best. This is my 6th year at the Elmore School and 18th in the LSSU School Districts. I love teaching at the Elmore School and feel very lucky to be part of the community. I earned my BA in Elementary Education with a certification in Early Childhood Education from Johnson State College, and my MA from the University of Vermont in Curriculum and Instruction. In addition in teaching, I am a certified child yoga teacher, and run a summer day camp with a focus on yoga and mindfulness.
