Hosford Middle School
May 17th, 2025
Dear Hosford Families,
It is with great sadness that I share the loss of one of our 6th grade students. Elios Renteria passed away yesterday after sustaining injuries from what appears to have been an accidental gunshot wound.
We have been in contact with Elios’s family and are sharing this information with their permission. Our hearts and thoughts are with them and all of Elios’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
We will all remember Elios as a sweet, fun-loving, and wonderful kid who brightened the lives of everyone who knew him. We will all miss him so dearly.
I know that many in our community may be impacted by this loss whether they knew Elios or not. Staff from the Trauma Intervention Program will be on-hand to support staff and students on Monday near the counseling offices. Our student support team is also here to help:
Cara Benny Leo, School Counselor, cbennyleo@pps.net
Sahjo Brown, School Counselor, sbrown3@pps.net

6th Grade Families - Additional Message
Outdoor school will proceed as planned. We are working to get a trauma counselor to the Kuratli camp, where Elios's was planning to attend. Ms. Brown and Ms. Benny Leo will also be available for video calls as needed.
We do not want students to learn about Elios's death at camp. Please share this news with them ahead of tomorrow to give them time, and know that we understand how difficult this is to process at this time.
