Winter Reminders
As we wind down the last few weeks before Winter Break, a few quick reminders...
- We try to get outside (weather permitting) as much as possible. Please be sure your children are dressed appropriately (coats, hats, gloves). It is helpful if possible to include their full name on all items they bring in.
- Please do not send your children to school with toys. An exception to this is when their classroom has a special event and the teacher allows students to bring in an item such as a stuffed animal for the one day event. Please make sure your children leave their special play things at home.
- In an effort to keep everyone healthy, review our guidelines "When to Keep Your Child Home."
- Our Penny Competition which benefits 'Glenwood Helping Glenwood' ends tomorrow, December 12.
- ALL our upcoming events are listed below, including our SPIRIT WEEK starting Monday!
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Christa Consadene cconsadene@rtmsd.org.

PENNY COMPETITION ENDS TOMORROW!
GLENWOOD PENNY COMPETITION through Friday, December 12th
Each grade level will have a bin in the cafeteria labeled with their grade. Students can bring in as many pennies as they can to put in their own grades bin. Each penny counts for a point!
But wait!!! THERE'S A TWIST! You can also bring in Dollar bills - as well as nickels, dimes, and quarters (any silver money) to put in other grades’ bins. Any silver coins or dollar bills put in a bin counts for negative points. So, if you bring in a nickel or a dollar bill, you want to put that nickel in ANOTHER grades bin!
Example: if you are in first grade and have 10 pennies (10 positive points) , a dime (worth 10 negative points) and a dollar (worth negative 100 points) you would put the 10 pennies in the first grade bin (gaining 10 points), and the dime and a dollar in either Kindergarten, Second, Third, Fourth or Fifth grade (to subtract a total of 110 points)! But beware- other grades will be putting silver coins and dollars in your bin too! The only way to stop those silver coins and dollars from subtracting points is more pennies!
SO, put pennies in your own grade level jar, and put dollar bills, nickels, dimes and quarters in other grades jars! The competition will run from Friday Dec 5th- Friday Dec 12th! Good sportsmanship will be expected by all students, as we see every year! Remember - teachers and staff have their own bin!
At the end, a winner among groups will be declared, and all the proceeds are donated to Glenwood
Helping Glenwood for Winter Holiday Support! (confidentially organized by the Glenwood School Counselors) If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Dana Vellios-Miller. dvellios@rtmsd.org
Celebrating Holiday Traditions
One of our Kindergarten parents came to teach her daughter and Mrs. Bradley's class about Hungarian Christmas.
She helped the children make boots, like the shoes the European children leave in their window overnight for Mikulás to fill.
Hour of Code
Ms. Coyne's 3rd grade class visited Mrs. Kotzen's Kindergarten class this morning to teach them how to use the Chromebooks for various activities during Hour of Code today.
Hour of Code is meant to introduce students to computer science, showing that it is easy to learn the basics, as an effort to broaden participation in the field of computer science.
Parent / Guardian Resources & Reminders
Message from the Health Room
If your child is ill, please consult the following RTMSD guidelines to determine if they should attend school. Please monitor your child for any signs of illness. If your child exhibits symptoms such as a cough, congestion, sore throat, or fever, please consider keeping them home from school. Specifically, if your child has a temperature of 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, they should remain at home. For the health and safety of all students, your child must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications, such as Motrin or Tylenol, before returning to school, as well as 24 hours without an episode of emesis. This measure helps to ensure that your child is fully recovered and reduces the risk of spreading illness to other students and staff.
Keeping your sick child at home will help them recover sooner and prevent the spread of germs. Reminding your student to cover their cough and the importance of good hand washing goes a long way in preventing the spread of bacteria and viruses. Proper nutrition and getting plenty of rest helps to maintain their immune system. Please remind your student not to share water bottles, cups/glasses, and eating utensils. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our school environment healthy. Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.
