.

Dear John Glenn Families,
As we move into the spring months, I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of consistent student attendance. With warmer weather approaching and many activities taking place outside of school, it can sometimes become more difficult for students to stay focused on their daily routines. However, regular attendance and arriving at school on time remain critical to student learning and success.
Each school day provides valuable instruction, classroom discussions, and opportunities for students to engage with their teachers and peers. When students miss school or arrive late, they often miss important instruction that can be difficult to fully make up. We appreciate your continued partnership in helping ensure that students attend school regularly and arrive on time each day.
This time of year is also especially important because students will soon be participating in state assessments, including the SAT and Michigan Merit Examination (MME). These assessments provide valuable information about student learning and help prepare students for college and career opportunities after high school. Being present, well-rested, and prepared on testing days plays an important role in helping students perform at their best. For juniors the MME tests (SAT, WIN, M-step) are mandatory as they are a graduation requirment.
Our staff is committed to supporting every student throughout this testing period and the remainder of the school year. With your help in reinforcing the importance of attendance and punctuality, we can ensure that all students are positioned for success.
Thank you for your continued support of John Glenn and our students.
Warm regards,
Scott Kelley

JG Grading Policy Update
Dear Families,
Over the past several months, a group of teachers and administrators from all four of our high school buildings have worked together to develop a consistent grading policy for our students. Our goal is to provide greater clarity and fairness for students and families by ensuring that grading practices are aligned across our schools.
This updated grading policy is designed to:
Provide consistency in how grades are determined and reported.
Communicate more clearly what students know and can do.
Focus on student learning and growth, rather than points lost.
It is important to note that students will continue to earn letter grades on their transcript—this change only impacts how grades are determined within classes.
Key Features of the Updated Grading Policy
Common Categories & Weights
Summative (70%) – Assessments that show what students have learned (tests, quizzes, papers, projects, presentations, etc.).
Formative (30%) – Practice opportunities for learning (homework, exit tickets, classwork, discussions, etc.).
Semester Grades
Students will no longer receive separate quarter or exam grades. Instead, grades will reflect learning across the entire semester.
Progress reports will still be provided midway through the semester as a snapshot in time.
Final exams may still be given at the teacher’s discretion, but will be factored into the semester grade rather than reported separately.
Assessment Redos
For every major test or project, students will have a chance to try again.
Reassessments must be completed no later than one week prior to the end of the semester.
End-of-semester assessments are not eligible for reassessment.
Students will earn full credit for demonstrating improved learning.
Formative Work Expectations
Late or missing formative work will be accepted until the end of the unit (minimum of two weeks).
All formative work must be submitted no later than two weeks before the end of the semester.
Common Grading Scale
Teachers will use a 4-point proficiency scale rather than percentages.
ParentConnect will display number grades that correspond to letter grades on transcripts.
This scale emphasizes evidence of learning and growth, not point deductions.

MiSTAR APP
Great news! For your ease and convenience, there is an app that has been created to have quick access to your Parent and Student Connection. In your Google App or Play store, type in “MiStar” and you will have the option to download the “Q ParentConnection” app for yourself and also the “Q StudentConnection” app for your child. I downloaded it and found it to be very easy to use. The convenience of having an app, rather than locating the website and looking up my PIN and password each time was great. I highly recommend downloading if you have a device.
If you get the app, you can select the “Re-Enrollment” in the drop down menu to submit your information that way as well.
