Parents please review the pdf below about Astrocamp with important details related to what to bring, daily schedules, and other instructions. Below are a few items included in the pdf that I would like to highlight:
- Bring a sleeping bag and pillow or sheets and blankets for a twin sized bed. Students must carry and pack up their own bedding.
- Bring towels
- Pack a sack lunch for Monday and a reusable water bottle - Dinner will be served Monday evening at the camp
- Bring a 2 Liter (empty and clean) soda bottle
- Pack light - students must carry their own belongings
- Students will be responsible for any money or electronics that they bring. Students can use cell phones during free time, but there is no internet for students.
- Label EVERYTHING!!
- Dramamine and a plastic bag is recommended if your child is prone to car sickness
- Join the Remind app to text chaperones, receive updates and pictures. Class code @6kk39f
- Arrive at school at the regular time, but drop off students' belongings for camp at the front of the school.
Students not attending Astrocamp:
- There will be a substitute teacher that will teach the students staying behind from all the classes. They will be in Ms. Van der Heide's classroom. There are 20 kids from all 3 classes not attending Astrocamp.
- Students should remember to bring their chromebooks to school fully charged every day. My students will not be in our classroom, so they won't be able to use our charging station if they forget.
- There will be no homework packet sent home this week. If you would like for your child to complete homework, they can read for 20 minutes each night and complete 45 minutes of iReady math personalized practice for the week.
Friday, September 22 - Pupil Free Day (NO SCHOOL)
In the Classroom - What We Are Learning
Sub Plans: For the students who are not attending Astrocamp, the fifth grade team will collaborate to create lesson plans to review concepts we have covered in English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science.
Heritage Float Project - Due on Friday, September 29.
Students will make a miniature float and prepare an oral presentation to share with the class. The project will be completed at home, but the students will have an opportunity to research their culture and take notes in class. Students may also create a Google slide presentation or poster board using the same guidelines. Please see the attached document for more detailed directions and a rubric.
