Check out all of the fun happening this month!

We are excited to continue to support United Way of Lubbock & the U Can Share Fundraiser. We will be hosting 3 fun events and all proceeds will be donated directly to these local organizations.

We are excited to continue the annual Storybook Pumpkin decorating contest this year with all money raised being directly donated to our United Way of Lubbock fundraising. Entry forms will come home in student folders on October 17. If your student is interested in decorating a storybook pumpkin, the cost will be $3. Please decorate an artificial pumpkin that is decorated or painted (no real pumpkins will be accepted--these decay quickly and cause a mess in our library). Pumpkins and entry forms along with $3 are due to the library anytime from October 21-25. These will be on display in the library during the last weeks of October, and we will have judges from CHS to help pick our overall winners!

If you would like to refer your 1st-5th grade student for gifted and talented testing, the district referral window closes on October 4th.

Students in grades 2-5 will be taking district assessments during their classes starting September 30th-October 9th. These assessments are common assessments designed by Lubbock ISD that all students take at the end of each 9 weeks grading period to measure mastery of content taught.

The first 9 week grading period will end on October 11th and printed report cards will be sent home with all students in Kindergarten-5th grade on October 17th.

There will be no school for students on Friday, November 1st-Tuesday November 5th. Friday, November 1st has been designed as a day for parents and teachers to have goals conferences to discuss student progress and goals for the school year. Please ensure you communicate with your student's teacher to ensure you have a time on your calendar to meet before or after school during October or during this day.

Plan to purchase your $5 wristbands and join us for Fall fun! Wristbands will be for sale in the front office starting on Monday, October 7th. This year we will not be serving food, but we will have various food trucks and vendors set up with items for purchase. Additionally our organizations will be selling fun snacks like popcorn, pickles, and other snacks so plan to bring cash too!

Our general PTA meeting and overview of campus goals will start right at 5:15 pm in the cafeteria and games and events will begin at 5:30 pm.

We are anticipating that our cookie dough & treats fundraiser will be ready for pickup the 3rd or 4th week of October. We will send out messages with the exact date as soon as this is finalized! Thank you so much for your support of our Fall Fundraiser at Smith!

Save the date for our Scholastic Book Fair during the week of October 15-18 in the library at Smith Elementary. The Book Fair will also be opened during our Fall Festival!

Smith will be celebrating the National Red Ribbon Week during the week of October 28-October 31. During this week we will work to live a healthy and safe life while pledging to be drug free. More information will be shared about activities planned during this week.

The Preston Smith PTA is off to a wonderful start this year and we are so excited about the jam-packed schedule we have lined up. As we head into Fall, make sure you take note of the October calendar, and JOIN US!
