Parents in School Program: Building Connections and Opportunities

The Parents in School Program, offered through the ELL Parent Center, helps parents and guardians learn more about their child’s school while building stronger connections with the school community. Through the program, parents have opportunities to better understand the school system, become more involved in their child’s education, and develop skills that can lead to new opportunities.

The program also empowers parents to become active members of their school communities. For some participants, their involvement has even led to opportunities to work in schools and support other students and families.

One of our very own staff members got their start through the Parents in School Program! After participating in the program as a parent, they continued their journey by becoming a staff member in our district.

Ashlee Nguyen, Our District Business Services Coordinator

Ashlee began her journey in our district as a parent participating in the Parents in School Program. Her involvement with the school community eventually led her to become a parent mentor and a paraprofessional at McCracken Middle School. As her connection to the district continued to grow, so did her professional journey. Ashlee later transitioned into the Business Office, where she worked in Accounts Payable before advancing to her current role as Business Services Coordinator.

From participating in the Parents in School Program as a parent to becoming a paraprofessional, working in Accounts Payable, and now serving as a Business Services Coordinator, Ashlee’s journey is a wonderful example of how family involvement can open doors to meaningful opportunities for our families and our district.

Her story reflects the heart of the Parents in School Program, building connections, creating opportunities, and helping families become an important part of our school community.

Want to learn more about the program? Please see the flyer below.
