New District Mobile Device Policy
In alignment with California’s Phone-Free Schools Act (AB 3216), the district has adopted Board Policy 5131.8 and Administrative Regulation 5131.8, Mobile Communication Devices (TK-8), to enhance student focus and well-being. This policy was developed with vital input from family and staff surveys, the LCAP Educational Partner Committee, and our Collaborative Leadership Team.
Reducing digital distractions during the school day fosters deeper academic engagement and stronger face-to-face social connections. While we prioritize a distraction-free environment, exceptions remain for students with documented medical needs (IEP/504) or during genuine emergencies.
We appreciate our parents, students, and staff for helping shape this policy. For urgent matters during the day, please contact your school’s front office to reach your student.
Leading the Way: Ventura County Equity Conference
We are happy to share that our district was recently represented at the VCOE Annual Equity Conference, an event focused on inclusion, belonging, and educational justice.
Our district’s highlights included:
Haycox Elementary presented during the Community Schools breakout session, highlighting the power of student voice and the impact of their 5th Grade Student Council on campus.
Kendra Robinson (Blackstock teacher and AAPC Facilitator) co-presented with Ventura USD on the African American Parent Council (AAPC), discussing how the councils support student success, strengthen family engagement, and create a space for collaboration, advocacy, and shared leadership within the districts.
We are incredibly proud of these leaders for representing our district and look forward to the continued impact of their insights in fostering a community where every student belongs.
🏆 Migrant Speech and Debate Team Takes 3rd Place!
We are incredibly proud of our 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students who recently competed in the Ventura County Migrant Education Speech and Debate Tournament.
Competing as a combined team, Hueneme Elementary School District/Oceanview School District earned 3rd place in the tournament. This achievement highlights our students' hard work, critical thinking, and public speaking skills.
Please join us in celebrating these talented scholars for their dedication and for representing our community so well. Congratulations to the entire team!
Innovators of Tomorrow: Bard Elementary Science Fair
Our Bard students showcased incredible grit and curiosity during this week’s annual Science Fair. The halls were filled with impressive research and creative experimentation across a wide range of scientific fields.
We are so grateful to our dedicated teachers and community judges who helped make this event a success. Your commitment to our students' growth helps bring science to life!
Congratulations to all our participants on a job well done.
Math Olympiad: Where Problems Meet Solutions
We are pleased to celebrate the success of this week's Math Olympiad, which featured 70 student competitors representing four of our district schools (Bard Elementary, Hathaway Elementary, Larsen Elementary, and Williams Elementary).
Math Olympiad encourages creativity and logic, pushing students to apply advanced problem-solving strategies beyond the classroom and develop a deeper appreciation for math.
We commend these students for their commitment to academic growth and extend our gratitude to the staff members who organized this successful event. Congratulations to all who participated!
