Warm November Greetings Warm November Greetings

The rain and wind have a way of reminding us that fall has officially begin. Our clocks have been set-back and each day, evening comes just a few minutes earlier. The arrival of November also signals that we have already reached the end of our first quarter as this year speeds forward. Fall conferences occurred earlier this week and provided a needed opportunity to pause and connect. Our beginning of the year events seem so distant and it was wonderful to spend time with so many of you who were able to attend our conferences this week - Thank you!

November brings our first significant calendar variations of this school year with several noted holidays occurring across the coming weeks. Please take a look through the below "Important Upcoming Dates" section and/or keep our North website bookmarked to keep these forthcoming dates in mind.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read through this newsletter. We're proud of the growth of our STARs thus far but we have a long road ahead in our efforts to maximize each day together. We appreciate your partnership and this opportunity to serve our North STARs, families, and community.

With Gratitude,

Holly, Drew, *Shaun, & Tyler

Celebrating Native American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Celebrating Native American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage

As November begins, we embrace Native American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month, a vital time to come together in truth, authenticity, and solidarity. This month provides a needed chance to goNorth: to grow in understanding while honoring the Native lives and sacred lands of Western Washington, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond. This opportunity exists daily but can be lost or rushed in the pace of life. This month of November, and the rightful designation of Native American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month, provides each of us with a needed opportunity to engage in collective learning, reflection, and celebration.

Throughout the coming weeks, leading to Native American Heritage Day on Friday, November 29th, North will work to grow as we honor the rich histories, vibrant cultures, and invaluable contributions of Native peoples through our actions and awareness. As part of our morning announcements and across our classrooms, we will take time each day to pause, listen, learn, and deepen our respect for the heritage and enduring impact of Indigenous peoples, locally, nationally, and globally.

In Honor of our Veterans In Honor of our Veterans

As a school community, we are deeply honored to recognize and express our gratitude to the many individuals who have served, and continue to serve our country through their commitment in our Armed Forces. At North, this includes members of our dedicated staff, as well as the parents, children, and other loved ones who have answered the call to serve.

This year, Veterans Day is observed on Tuesday, November 11th. This is a non-school day and an important date on our calendar each year to pause, reflect, and express our gratitude to all who have served our country. Part of this observation is a schoolwide assembly, on Monday, November 10th. This assembly is but one event but on campus, it is a meaningful one as we come together to say thank you. School resumes the day after Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 12th on a normal/regular schedule.

If you or someone close to you is a veteran, we want you to know how sincerely we appreciate your service, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication. As we’ve shared here on campus, veterans are true heroes, unlike the many fictitious heroes of television and movies. Veterans are real people who have made profound sacrifices to protect our freedoms and ensure our safety. As we enter this season of gratitude, please know how thankful we are for all who have served our country with courage and honor.

Settling Into STAR Settling Into STAR

This year, our schedule includes four days of an advisory/intervention block known on campus as STAR. This 25-minute block occurs between first and second period and specifically focuses on executive functioning (organization and planning) skills, social emotional learning, reading and math interventions, and extension opportunities.

In mid-November (week of November 17th), we will shift the content focus of these daily STAR blocks to include two days of math. To date, we have struggled to complete our intended math content and found that one 25-minute block does not provide enough time. For this reason, we will double our math time by focusing on math during STAR on both Wednesday and Thursday each week.

Fall Conferences + Follow-Up, Two-Minute Survey Fall Conferences + Follow-Up, Two-Minute Survey

As a school, we want to thank every family member that were able to attend our Fall Conferences this past Monday and Tuesday. Each session was busy but few were full meaning that families were able to successfully navigate conferences from teacher to teacher.

Middle school conferences are structured differently than our elementary peers and we regret the inability to schedule a conference between every family and each of their child's teachers. That noted, we are always looking to improve and have created the below-linked, multilingual, anonymous survey to hear from you as to what went well, and what we can improve.

If you have two-minutes to share, please click below. This email utilizes an external site and does not collect identifiable information.

Our Everett Public Schools are building a Family Engagement Advisory Council and are looking for a couple of North parents/guardians who would be willing to join other parents in three meetings across the coming months.

This important advisory group will specifically work to advise, foster, and promote a needed culture of family engagement across our district , school, and community. More specifically, the Council will provide our EPS Superintendent, Dr. Ian Saltzman and districts leads with feedback relate to effective family engagement practices. They'll advise our leaders as to how we can better remove barriers to family engagement and advocacy. Meetings will be held in the evenings on November 24th (11/24), February 4th (2/4), and April 15th (4/15). Child care as well as dinner will be provided for each meeting.

If you are interested, please contact North Principal, Tyler Ream. We'd be grateful and honored to have you represent our North community in this important initiative.
