Join the Sidener Academy Parent Teacher Association for our quarterly general membership meeting. We'll have information on events, fundraising, and an update from our new principal--Dr. Milanda Penn. The IPS Director of Operations, Dr. Bill Murphy, will also share information and solicit feedback about the planning process for the new IPS High Ability Elementary School Building approved under the IPS Rebuilding Stronger initiative.

Fifth graders and their families are invited to an Open House at Harshman Middle School (1501 E. 10th St, Indianapolis) on Thursday, November 21, 5:30-7:00 PM. Harshman is the High Ability (serving all 4 zones) and Dual Language (serving zones 3 and 4) Middle School, and they want to make sure families and students at Sidener have a chance to learn more about what these program options mean for them. Wednesday Walkthrough Tours are also offered every Wednesday at Harshman @ 1:30 PM. Watch this quick video for a glimpse into life at Harshman!
The Enroll Indy Round 1 window is open now to January 24, 2025. Sidener fifth graders are automatically assigned to and guaranteed a spot in the High Ability program at Harshman. Students who may also want to take advantage of the Dual Language program at Harshman will need to take a Spanish proficiency test before the end of the school year.
Students in 3rd-5th grade will be going on a field trip on Thursday, November 21, to Clowes Memorial Hall at Butler University for a performance from the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. The concert is entitled “The Orchestra Moves” and is a part of the Carnegie Hall “Link Up” program. Watch the video or read the attachments to learn more.
Make sure your student has the general field trip permission slip on file with the school! This is typically filled out at the beginning of the year. If you're not sure if your student has one on file, please call the school or email Mrs. Drummer at drummerc@myips.org

Send in Your Aluminum Cans and Old Holiday Lights!
Our supportive community partner, The Can Lady, is trying to reach her fundraising goal for the year. Please send in your aluminum cans (soda pop not soup) and any old holiday lights for recycling. Not only does the Can Lady support many of the classrooms at Sidener with new rugs, decor, and school supplies, but she also teaches students the VALUE of recycling!
