Westropp NewsSeptember Parent Update-Off To A Great Start
Hello

Dear Clara E. Westropp Families,

We have officially made it through our first week and a half of school, and what an amazing start it has been! As we welcome the month of September, I want to take a moment to thank you for your partnership, support, and trust. Seeing our hallways filled with smiling faces, eager learners, and students reconnecting with friends has been a wonderful way to begin the school year.

Over these first few days, our students have been learning routines, building relationships, and settling into their classrooms. It has been exciting to watch them gain confidence, show kindness, and embrace new learning opportunities each day. Our teachers and staff have enjoyed getting to know your children and are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every student can succeed.

At Clara E. Westropp, we know that student success happens when schools and families work together. We are grateful for all you do at home to support your child's education and for being such an important part of our school community.

As we kick off September, please help us by keeping these important reminders in mind:

Emergency Forms & Paperwork

If you have not yet returned your child's emergency forms or any other required paperwork, please send them in as soon as possible. Having up-to-date information on file helps us ensure the safety and well-being of every student.

Cell Phone-Free School

Clara E. Westropp continues to be a cell phone-free school. Student cell phones are collected and secured at the beginning of the day and returned during the last period. This practice supports a focused learning environment and aligns with CMSD Board Policy. Please remind your child to follow school expectations regarding cell phones.

Morning Arrival & Breakfast

When students arrive at school, they should report directly to the cafeteria and sit at their assigned classroom table for breakfast. Teachers meet students at 7:35 a.m. and escort them to class. To help ensure a smooth and safe arrival, we ask that families do not walk students into the building. Staff members are available to assist students as needed.

PreK families: Students must be signed in and will wait on the front benches near the main entrance doors.

Thank you again for your continued support and partnership. We can't wait to see all that our Westropp Wildcats will accomplish this year! Here's to a great month ahead!

Warmly,

Mrs. Bing

As a reminder, classes at Westropp begin at 7:35am, with the school doors opening at 7:15am for students who would like breakfast. Dismissal is at 2:05pm.

Every Day Counts!

As we head into September, I want to thank our families for partnering with us to make this school year a success. One of the most important ways to support your child's learning is by making sure they are at school every day and on time.

Our doors open at 7:15 AM, and classes begin promptly at 7:35 AM. We have noticed an increase in late arrivals, and we want to remind families that tardies add up and impact both attendance and learning.

When students are at school and on time, they have the opportunity to learn, build friendships, participate in classroom activities, and stay on track academically. Missing school or arriving late can make it harder for students to keep up with important lessons and routines.

At Westropp, we believe that every day matters and every minute counts. Thank you for helping us ensure that your child is here, on time, and ready to learn each day

Open House is Almost Here! Open House is Almost Here!

We are excited to welcome our Westropp families to Open House on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 PM!

Please note that all students will be dismissed at 11:00 AM on September 9th so our staff can prepare for the evening.

Open House is a great opportunity to visit your child's classroom, meet their teachers, learn about classroom routines and expectations, explore curriculum resources, and hear about the exciting learning experiences planned for this school year. We encourage all families to attend and take advantage of this time to connect with our school community

Please keep in mind that Open House is not a Parent-Teacher Conference. Teachers will be sharing general information about the school year rather than discussing individual student progress. If you would like to discuss your child's specific academic or behavioral progress, please contact your child's teacher to schedule a separate conference.

We look forward to seeing you on September 9th and partnering with you for a successful school year!

Welcome to the 26/27 school year!

I am excited to be at Clara Westropp and look forward to helping your students! My goal is to keep our Westropp community informed about ways we can work together to keep our students healthy, safe, and ready for school.

Medications: If your student requires medication during the school day, a medical provider MUST complete a Medication Authorization Form for Prescribed Medication. As the nurse, I am unable to administer any medication without this form. This includes Asthma inhalers and Epi-pens. You can get this form from the nurse’s office, our school secretary Mrs.Doss, or from the CMSD website (search CMSD School Nurses- health forms).

Allergies/Asthma/Serious medical conditions: Please notify me of any health conditions that your student has, so that I can work to keep your student safe and healthy during the school day.

When to keep your student home: A fever of 100.4 or higher, vomiting or multiple episodes of diarrhea over the past 24 hours, a contagious illness (pink eye, strep throat), or a severe cough or cold that prevents the student from participating in school.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

From Your Family Support Specialist

Welcome to a new school year! My role as the Family Support Specialist is to help connect students and families with resources and support that can help remove barriers to school success. Here are a few important reminders and resources for our families:

🍎 Weekend Meal Programs

We offer weekend food support for eligible students and families. Our weekend meal programs provide shelf stable food for students to take home on Fridays to help support them over the weekend. A letter and a form will be coming home this week to enroll in this program. If your family could benefit from weekend food assistance, please complete the form and return with your student.

.

📚 Every School Day Matters!

Regular attendance plays an important role in your child's academic and social success. Missing just a few days each month can quickly add up to lost instructional time.

We also understand that sometimes there are barriers that make getting to school difficult. If your family is experiencing challenges with transportation, housing, basic needs, health-related resources, morning routines, or other concerns that are affecting your child's attendance, please reach out. My goal is to work with families to identify barriers and connect you with support—not to judge.

👕 Change of Clothes for Pre- K–3 Students

Families of students in Pre- K, Kindergarten through 3rd grade are encouraged to keep a complete change of clothes at school for their child. Spills, bathroom accidents, muddy playground days, and other unexpected situations happen!

Please send clothing in a labeled bag that includes:

  • Shirt
  • Pants or bottoms
  • Underwear
  • Socks

Please remember to update the clothing during the year as your child grows and as the seasons change.

🤝 How Can I Help?

As your Family Support Specialist, I am here to support students and families with needs that may impact a child's ability to be successful at school. This may include connecting families with food, clothing, housing resources, utility assistance, school supplies, community programs, attendance support, and other basic-needs resources.

If you need assistance—or you're simply not sure where to start—please reach out by phone or text at 216-894-4959.
