Need to Know - School Selection Need to Know - School Selection

Liaisons are now encouraged to consider these factors during School Selection

Individualized factors that might potentially support enrollment in a school in the local attendance area include the following:

  • Issues related to domestic violence or other threatening conditions that make staying in the school of origin unsafe
  • A commute that is so lengthy that it would significantly reduce a child or youth’s learning time (for example, arriving late and leaving early)
  • ⭐ A move to a multi-year transitional living program where the student would be better able to participate in afterschool or extra-curricular activities if they enrolled in the local attendance school
  • ⭐ A family finds permanent housing and a change to the local attendance area school would make it easier for children to participate in after-school activities and/or establish neighborhood friendships/support
  • A child needs specific medical or other health-related care that is closer to the local attendance area school

Important Important

  • Allegan - Sylvia's Place now has outreach office hours in Pullman at People Helping People, 10am - 2pm
  • Increased Military Deployments - if a student is staying with a relative or caretaker due to their parent or guardian's deployment they are not considered MV but do have the right to enroll where they are now staying due to the Military Interstate Children's Compact - these students should be coded 9130 in your SIS (military connected child)
  • Rx Kids - residents of 49507 in Grand Rapids will be able to register for Rx Kids beginning July 1st - program provides $1,500 for expectant mothers and then $500/month for either 6 - 12 months (depending on the community) after birth to support financial security
