Bennett Bulletin

September 20 - October 2

Bennett BulletinSeptember 20 - October 2

From Ms. Bennett:

It's hard to believe it is the first week of October! It has been a beautiful adventure thus far, and it has only just begun. This month my hope is to focus on Kindness and character development. Through conversation, read-aloud stories, and reflections I hope to inspire kindness across all aspects of our school day. I hope you can support your fourth grader by modeling kindness as well, and sharing out about all moments - LARGE and small.

I apologize for missing a weekly update! I decided to officially get a "S'more" account, and had finished my "free trial." You can expect to see all of our weekly Bennett Bulletin's here.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Literacy Updates Literacy Updates

As we build our stamina during Reader's workshop, fourth graders are practicing good reading habits. These skills are modeled during our read aloud and then practiced independently in their own books.

There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom

A wonderful story about friendship, acceptance, and honesty! This story allows us to share deep connections with one another, but also makes all of us crack up!

Stone Fox

This story is our anchor text during literacy! Little Willy perseveres through many obstacles but never gives up on himself or others. (Tear jerker for sure!)

Each Kindness

We will read and discuss this picture book, to learn about a signpost called the "Again and Again" moment, and focus our minds on the acts of kindness in the story.

Math Updates Math Updates

Common Core mathematics supports the need for students to become independent problem solvers. We are working on persevering through problems, and having this mentality helps build their confidence in the content.

Make sure to practice:

Subtracting 3/4 digit numbers - including with zeros! We have been reviewing, and this is still an area of concern for some.

Science - Social Studies - Technology Updates Science - Social Studies - Technology Updates

Monday and Tuesday 2:40-3:30 - Social Studies with Mrs. Redmond

Wednesday and Thursday 2:40-3:30 - Science with Mrs. Wheeler

Technology - 4th graders have completed two major digital citizenship lessons so far! One about being a digital citizen, and another about safe passwords!

Homework Reminders

Every night students are expected to share their agendas with their parents. Please take time to discuss what went on during the school day! I would love if you could initial or sign every night to ensure your 4th grader is being held accountable.

Students are expected to read EVERY NIGHT. (R.A.L in the agenda means "Read at least...")

**The school district policy is that students be given 10 minutes of homework per grade level each night; 40 minutes for 4th graders.

Students are expected to complete the following every night:

  • Read

  • Math Facts (+,-, x, /)

  • Any work from class that was not finished during school

September 21 - Grand Rapids Symphony Visit

What a wonderful experience! 4th graders were able to listen to musicians, learn about their instruments, and even try out the instruments themselves!

Accountable Talk with Book Buddies

4th graders were the teachers while helping their kindergartener use accountable talk to learn about one another.
