WDHS STEM CLUB NEWS
Temple University 2026 SumoBot Competition.
On Saturday, 4/25/26, WDHS Engineering Students captured First, Second, and Third Place at the Temple University 2026 SumoBot Competition.
1st Place Team : Eagle 2 - Dylan Gloeckner & Jaxon Rohrman; Prize: $600
2nd Place Team: Eagle 1 - Austin Finocchiaro ; Prize: $500
3rd Place Team: Eagle 3 - Logan Markowski; Prize: $300
This is our third time participating. The coding platform changes each year. Two teams place an autonomous SumoBot in a circular ring called a Dohyo. Each robot attempts to push the opposing robot out of the ring. Once one of the robots has been pushed out of the ring, the round is over, and the one who remains in the Dohyo is considered the winner. Whichever team’s robot successfully wins two rounds is permitted to proceed to the next tier of the competition. All teams will use the same robot; it is up to the team to write the best and most strategic code in order to win. Each SumoBot (including batteries) must weigh less than 300 grams. The competition is structured as a double-elimination competition.
I am very proud of these students. This was the first competition for Austin, Logan, and Jaxon. Dylan had participated in the 2024 competition. Dylan and Jaxon have also participated in this year's SeaGlide Competition.

DECA NEWS
2025-2026 DECA RECAP
DECA is a fun and engaging club at our school where students get hands-on experience with real-world business scenarios.
In January, our members attended the NJ DECA District Conference, where they roleplayed different business situations and built important communication and problem-solving skills. Before this conference, students completed a 100-question exam covering various aspects of business. This year, five students competed at the NJ DECA State Conference in Atlantic City. In February, the club took a tour of Citizens Bank Park and we recently visited Lincoln Financial Field for a look at operations behind the scenes.
These trips were impactful this year, as both venues are preparing to host major sporting events, some gaining worldwide viewership.
Under the leadership of Mr. Lowden, who recently took over the club, DECA has been growing and improving, which we hope to carry into the coming school years.
Overall, DECA is a great mix of learning, competition, and fun.
Looking ahead, West Deptford DECA will be holding an interest meeting after school on Thursday, April 30. Current students should attend to find out more about our club and how they can get involved. Please find us on Instagram (@wddeca) to stay connected!
