Summer Growth Spurts

I love the school year and it always amazes me how fast time goes from August to May while we are learning and growing together! Even though I have the distinct pleasure of seeing our children day in and day out for 9 months straight, I don't always notice the growth that is happening before my eyes! Yet, August always comes with a bit of a shock! Our children come back taller with new haircuts, a radiant glow from the sun and a twinkle of wisdom in the eyes! Inevitably, I greet them with a smile and comment about how much they've grown! Just a few weeks away and they skyrocket!

While changes in their height, their hair, and their shoe size are readily visible, our children are busy growing in other ways each summer day! They are generalizing skills and gaining new understanding of the world! They are going on backyard adventures and learning to face challenges and overcome obstacles! They are taking on new chores and responsibilities to help around the house and give back to the family! They are staying up late to watch the night sky and wish upon a shooting star! They are playing on teams and learning how to be a gracious winner and how to lose the game without losing hope! They are able to handle being bored in the car on a long drive, being too hot and uncomfortable with no air conditioning, and not getting their first choice, because they can handle hard things! They are gaining an appreciation for the people in their lives and the connections they have made!

They are busy growing so much this summer!

Enjoy these summer days and continue to cultivate the important growth that is underway with all of our children! Know that when I see you back in August (or in the aisles at the grocery store or at the park or anywhere in our small town), and I make note of how much our children have grown, it is not just a comment about the inches added, but the experiences, the knowledge, the skills and talents, that I see blooming in all our children!

Thank you for sharing your amazing children with me! I am looking forward to being back together after a fruitful summer of growth!

Grade Level Links

This last year we tried something new! We had a parent volunteer at each grade level to help link parents to the classroom and to each other. At the start of the year, I shared a survey for every parent to complete. This form requested an e-mail address that you would be willing to share with the other parents in your grade so you can stay connected with grade level activities, opportunities to volunteer, and support the happenings in the classroom! A few things that have come about from this are:

  • Royal tea party
  • Flap jacks for lumber jacks
  • Parents sharing careers
  • Fun crafts
  • Engaging science activities
  • Demonstration on how to care for your car
  • Special field trip to bait big horn sheep
  • So much more!

As we look ahead to next year, I want to see this grow! The intention is to connect you to the classroom, connect students with positive role models, connect parents with each other! If you are interested in being the Grade Level Link, please let me know! We already have one volunteer per grade level and I would love to have at least one more so you can work as partners! I am planning on having a Grade Level Link Meeting on Monday August 11 at 3:00 before our SOS meeting!

Learning and Growing Together

I would love to continue learning and growing together as the adults in our children's lives! Do you want to learn and grow with me? I am seeking feedback so I can provide the most fruitful opportunities! I will not claim to be an expert in any area, but I believe that the more we connect and explore together, the stronger we will be in all aspects of our knowledge, skills, and practices!

Please complete the survey below to help me develop the best approach!

Supply List

Click on the link below for the 2025-2026 School Year Supply List! You may notice that there are baby wipes listed. This is a switch from Clorox/Lysol wipes. We have appropriate cleansers in the classrooms and wipes are only needed to clear off surfaces. A few grade levels have requested a few Clorox wipes for the teacher's use only.

If you have any trouble gathering materials or supplies, please do not stress! We are here to help! Reach out to me at krexford@wpsdk12.org and we will make sure our children have what they need!

Monday - 2nd and 3rd Graders

Tuesday - 1st Graders

Thursday - Kindergarten

Friday - 4th and 5th Graders

Colorado Measures of Academic Success - CMAS

This year, Colorado is doing something different! Student scores are available to families through a portal! This is a tremendous improvement over previous years. Typically, students do not receive their scores until late August or early September.

Below is a letter from the state regarding this new opportunity. I am excited to see how our children did on the assessments. I know that they worked hard all year and they gave a great effort during testing! I am proud of them all!
